Hopefully this happens!

Because seriously it's about time!

The word on the street is that the Boy Scouts of America should be going through with allowing gay members any day now.

But they won't be letting in gay leaders, which is NOT cool!

Fortunately, it sounds like some members of the organization are starting to see the light. In fact, one of the major councils in Southern California are proposing allowing gay scouts AND leaders!

Here's what the president of the LA council said:

Boy Scouts Ending Ban On Gays!! But ONLY For Youth Members!!!

boy scouts of america lifting gay ban

It looks like all the disenfranchised scouts out there will finally get some resolution- specifically, one that finally makes the Boy Scouts of America open to gay members!

After three months of rigorous research and debate, the Scouts announced today that they are pushing forward a resolution banning discrimination for sexuality!

According to spokesman Deron Smith, the new rule states:

"No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone."

Yay! Progress!

But what took them so long?? Author and Boy Scouts historian Patrick Boyle said:

"This is a historic change for the Boy Scouts.

You have a more than hundred-year-old organization changing what it considered a fundamental belief just a decade ago. That says a lot about the Scouts and a lot about how far the gay rights movement has come in the United States."

The scouts aren't out of the woods yet, so to speak. They still have to vote to ratify the resolution in May.

Then they'll finally get their merit badge in tolerance!

UPDATE:

It seems the Boy Scouts have had to clarify their position since this morning's announcement.

We were so happy with their big step into the new millennium, we failed to notice that the new policy is only for YOUTH members- meaning the BSA still won't be allowing gay scout leaders or other openly homosexual adults, including parents, into their organization.

Rich Ferraro, Vice President of Communications at GLAAD, says:

"By refusing to consider an end to its ban on gay and lesbian parents, the Boy Scouts have missed an opportunity to exercise leadership and usher the organization back to relevancy."

Though this is a very big change in the Scouts' policy, we have to agree. It seems the Boy Scouts of America just aren't prepared to step completely into the future.

Boy Scouts' Policy On Gay Membership Ban Is Put On Hold!

boy scouts decision to ban gay memberships is put on hold

Come on now!

After the Boy Scouts of America got us excited with news that they may lift the ban on gays, they're now stating that they need more time to come to a decision.

The vote on whether or not to release the ban on gay memberships is being delayed until May, and to try to smooth things over, the scouts said:

And the hits keep on coming for the Boy Scouts of America.

As the organization continues its sad and hurtful ban of gay boy scouts, UPS has become the latest sponsor to pull their funding.

The United Parcel Service will be adopting a non-discrimination policy which will disqualify the BSA from future funding.

Boy Scouts President: 'We're Sorry'

Filed under: Sad SadIcky Icky Diaper Poo

The Boy Scouts of America are due to release a rather large collection of secret files that contain the names of potential child molesters.

Although there is no timetable for how far back these files go back, if one considers that the boy scouts have been around since 1910 - it could go pretty damn far back.

The president of the infamous organization has issued an apology

What wonderful, heart-warming news!! BE PREPARED for some changes, Boy Scouts of America!

The CEO of Ernst & Young James Turley - a prominant figure on the Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America organization - released an official statement IN FAVOR of lifting the gay scout/scout leader ban!!!!!

Turley expressed:

“Ernst & Young is proud to have such a strong record in LGBT inclusiveness. As CEO, I know that having an inclusive culture produces the best results, is the right thing for our people and makes us a better organization. My experience has led me to believe that an inclusive environment is important throughout our society and I am proud to be a leader on this issue. I support the meaningful work of the Boy Scouts in preparing young people for adventure, leadership, learning and service, however the membership policy is not one I would personally endorse. As I have done in leading Ernst & Young to being a most inclusive organization, I intend to continue to work from within the BSA Board to actively encourage dialogue and sustainable progress.”

Discrimination In The Boy Scouts!

How narrow-minded can people get?!

A gay father in Dallas was humiliated this week after his community decided he could no longer serve as leader in his 9-year-old's Cub Scout pack because he's gay!

Jon Langbert has spent the last two years devoted to the pack and his son, helping however he could and aiding in their lucrative popcorn fundraiser for the group. But at last month's scout meeting, someone complained about his homosexuality and he's since been asked to step down from his position. Needless to say, Jon is upset. He told the press:

"What message does that send to my son? It says I'm a second-class citizen."

Robert McTaggart, the Cubmaster for the pack, let Jon know that he would still be allow to participate in the popcorn fundraiser. Apparently, Jon is still good enough to hock their merchandise, just not good enough to wear their uniform.

Ugh! Awful!

The Boys Scouts of America has had a long-standing policy that rejects not only leaders who are gay, but also atheist. One of the leaders of the Scouts organization explained:

"Our policy is not meant to serve as social commentary outside the Scout program. We respect people who have a different opinion from us. We just hope those same people will respect our right to have a different opinion."

You want people to respect you for being hateful for no reason? Are you looking for understanding when you can't muster enough up yourselves?!

Shame on you for making that devoted father feel like he wasn't worthy to be apart of your group and for confusing that young boy! What a terrible example you are setting for all of those children, showing that being different is a punishable crime!

We're disgusted!
