The folks at Brazilian Blowout were none too pleased when they found out Octo-Mom was shelling out $520 to get her hair did, especially now that she's receiving $2000/mo from the government.
So, in light of the recent controversy, the California-based company is turning a negative into a positive and offering Nadya Suleman free future hair services
Thanks to a lawsuit California filed in November against a North Hollywood-based hair product company, their products proven to emit a potentially cancer-causing gas will be properly labeled to warn consumers of the risk.
GIB LLC produces Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Solution and Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution, which were labeled as being free of formaldehyde — a carcinogen that can irritate eyes, skin and lungs.
Fortunately, that's going to change and the company has also has to pay $600,000 in fines for failing to notify consumers and hair stylists of the danger the chemicals in the products pose. Attorney General Kamala Harris said in a statement:
More bad news for the makers of the Brazilian Blowout.
The United States Department of Health and Labor issued a health alert to hair salon owners and employees who have been exposed to formaldehyde, even though the hair straightening product was marketed as formaldehyde-free.
The alert was sparked following investigations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Oregon and California as well as Connecticut Department of Public Health.
OSHA says their alert is merely a recommendation on how workers can protect themselves and will continue investigating the matter with the FDA and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Tons of women by the Brazilian Blowout, but Mary Louise Parker? Not so much.
In an interview with T magazine, the Weeds star was asked about beauty mishaps and the hair straightening treatment is one of them.
She explains:
"Yes. Not trusting my instincts — letting my vanity take over — and having the Brazilian Straightening Treatment. I’ve experienced hair fall-out in the past, and it is not fun. This treatment resulted in more. My advice: don’t do it!"
Remember how we mentioned Oregon's Occupational Safety & Health Administration found formaldehyde in the Brazilian Blowout solution?
The state of California is taking the claims to a whole new level and suing the company that's selling the hair straightening product!
Sued by a whole state? Yikes!
The suit was filed by the state attorney general’s office of Jerry Brown and claims GIB LLC is violating California’s Safe Cosmetics Act by not warning stylists and customers that their product contains formaldehyde.
GIB LLC has tried to place the blame on Cadiveu Brasil, the manufacturers of Brazilian Blowout, but quickly said they haven't sold their products to the company in 6 months.
Oregon's Occupational Safety & Health Administration have found the Brazilian Blowout contains anywhere between 8% and 10% of formaldehyde, which is known to cause certain types of cancer.
Yikes!
The makers of the product have issued a statement saying the Brazilian Blowout is formaldehyde free and basically call the health administration liars.
Watch the video above to see the pros and cons of the hair straightening treatment.
If you can't afford the ridiculously priced $400 Brazilian blowouts, you're in luck because the treatment is getting a lot more affordable!
This September the "Express Blowout" will be making its way into salons. The treatment will cost $100 with results lasting 4 to 6 weeks, compared to the $350 Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy that lasts 3 to 4 months.
The VP of Marketing for the Express Blowout explains:
"We needed a faster service for the salons that can be performed in a lunch hour. The original needs a two- to three-hour window. We needed another service that was quicker and had a lower price point. The Express needs less product and utilizes a different silicone so it costs less for the salon, so they can charge less."
Salons are also developing their own affordable keratin protein infused products as well as companies like Garnier Fructis with prices ranging from $12 to $25.
Not bad!
Will U be trying any of these affordable frizz-free services/products???
And this time, she's making some pretty SERIOUS allegations against the officers involved in her Thursday night arrest for drug possession, reckless endangerment, and tampering with evidence!
The troubled starlet took to her social networking page this afternoon to continue denying her legal drama this week, which involved her allegedly smoking pot in her apartment building's lobby and then throwing her bong out the window when police began searching her place, and now, she's asserted that one of the officers at the scene sexually harassed her by "slapping" her VAGINA!
