The NFL is no stranger to having domestic violence scandals on their hands, so you think they'd be a little more receptive to spreading awareness on the subject.

But instead of applauding players who are trying to support causes personal to them, the league is FINING them!

Cornerback William Gay received a first-offense uniform violation of $5,787 on Wednesday for wearing purple cleats — purple to show support for domestic violence awareness.

The Pittsburgh Steelers player's mother was shot and killed by his stepfather when he was 7 years old.

Growing up, he has been an avid supporter of the cause — which uses purple as its official color — and was even featured in a recent public service announcement.

The player even shared a photo of his purple cleats on his Instagram:

The 57-year-old brought out musical guest Miley Cyrus to compete in a game loosely based on the pop star's 2013 hit — and things got a little weird!

Reservations aside, Ellen ended up being really good at the game — so much that Miley ended up cheating just to keep up! Find out who won in the cray video (above)!

In her message, The Santangelos author stressed the importance of getting tested regularly, in order to catch cancer early on:

"As you may have recently heard, I revealed that I have been LIVING life to the fullest with Stage 4 Breast Cancer for the past six and a half years. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, my message is this: Early detection can save lives! Get regular mammograms, and/or tell your loved ones too. Low cost or free mammograms are offered through many national programs and community organizations, so do your research. Even if you've been screened, and you have a gut feeling that something in your body is off, get a second opinion!"

She expressed that, if you do get diagnosed with the disease, it's important to remain optimistic, writing:
