Scottish Deerhound Wins Best In Show

Westminster's Best In Show 2011

Congrats Hickory!

The day of the Scottish deerhound has finally come at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Hickory, a 5-year-old female from Virginia, became the first of her breed to win Best in Show at Westminster, taking the top prize on the second and final day of the event at New York's Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

Judge Paolo Dondina said Hickory fit exactly the same Scottish deerhound standards that he'd studied long ago.

Besides Hickory and Ladybug, the other group winners — and Best of Show finalists — were:

– Toy: A Pekingese named Malachy

– Non-sporting: A Chinese shar-pei named Jayne

– Herding: A bearded collie named Mister Baggins

– Sporting: A black cocker spaniel named Beckham

– Terrier: A smooth fox terrier named Adam

– Working: A Portuguese water dog (like Obama's pooch) named Ladybug

Terriers have won 45 of the 104 Westminster Best in Show titles. More than 2,000 dogs, representing 179 breeds, were competing in this year's show.

Westminster Dog Show

Dog lovers tune your TV sets to USA or CNBC tonight because the nation's second oldest animal sporting event next to the Kentucky Derby is taking over prime time.

The 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show begins this morning in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden with 2,600 dogs, embodying 179 breeds from 49 states, scheduled to participate this year.

Woo hoo! We know what Teddy will be watching tonight!

The show even has a few new entries this year with six new breeds including the Cane Corso, Leonberger, Icelandic sheepdog, Bluetick coonhound, Redbone coonhound and Boykin spaniel making their competition debut.

While it is impossible to tell which pooch will receive the coveted Best in Show title, one thing is certain, a new pooch will take the crown.

Sadie, a petite black Scottish terrier who dominated the dog show circuit last year before winning Best in Show at Westminster, is bowing out so she can be bred.

Looks like the field is wide open and we'd like to wish all of the canine competitors the best of luck and can't wait to see who wins!

Well, we clearly know Teddy is a winner on this list!

In keeping up with celebrity trends, the labradoodle has always been a top pick for the pooches of the rich and famous, however there are a few more to add to the list.

The maltipoo, puggle and poochon have all become popular.

The maltipoo is a cross between a maltese and a poodle, which is close to the top of the list.

Other cross breeds that are often chosen by celebs include the labradoodle, a mix between a labrador and a poodle and the puggle, a mix between a pug and a beagle!

Most of the cross breeds include poodles because they are intelligent and their woolly coat sheds very little hair. This makes them less likely to aggravate allergies.

Which pup would U pick?
