The House of Mouse has had some pretty big successes on the Great White Way. (And then, there was The Little Mermaid. Yikes!)
Though plans for something new to hit Broadway from Disney has been nothing more than hushed whispers and Internet rumors, we've discovered that there are tons of classic Disney films being considered for the stage.
One Disney source has noted that there are several domain names being bought out by the Disney Corp., suggesting the future plans in bringing these films to the stage.
Some shows have already been established in other places, like Aladdin (AladdinOnTour.com), which is currently playing as an attraction in the Disney Parks and Sister Act (SisterActOnTour.com), which is currently playing in London's West end.
The source noted as many as 20 new shows being considered, including:
Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Calendar Girls, Citizen Ruth, Coyote Ugly, The Father of the Bride, The Flamingo Kid, Freaky Friday, Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Jungle Book, The Newsies, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pollyanna, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Shakespeare in Love, Sister Act, Step Up, Toy Story, and Yellow Submarine
Phew! That's a lot of show-tunes!
We can already spot the flops (Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, anyone?), but we're sure whichever shows they decide to go with, the money will just POUR into their pockets.
Because let's face it - Disney can do no wrong for the true fan!
Which of these shows would U actually like to see be made into Broadway magic?
