When would this EVER be a good idea?

Francisco Rivera Ordóñez is one of Spain's most famous matadors and quite often receives praise for what he does.

However, he's currently getting a lot of backlash because he posted a picture on Instagram of himself bullfighting while holding his five-month old daughter (above)!

Obviously the online community has lashed out at Ordóñez and expressed serious concern for the baby — but that's not the bullfighter's biggest problem!

Dwarf Bullfighters Want To Change People's Perception Of Little People

midget-bullfighter.jpg

In South America, a troupe of dwarf bullfighters have been touring the continent, trying to raise awareness and change people's perception of little people.

Instead of fighting full grown adult bulls, they fight calves so there's less chance of injury.

And unlike traditional bullfights where the bulls are eventually slaughtered for "sport", these fights involve no injuries.

To the bulls at least.

One of the performers said:

"I think Americans may not understand what we do.

They may think we go out there to be laughed at, but that's not the case.

If a little person can fight a bull, he can do anything. That's what we're trying to prove."

The men perform about 100 shows a year, battling bulls to show that just because you're short, doesn't mean you don't have as much (or more) courage or ability than anyone else.

These guys are so inspirational.

You go, little bullfighters!

Bullfighters Are Having A Cow Over Bull-Killing Ban

Bullfighters in Ecuador

Bullfighters in Ecuador are seeing red over a ballot referendum that, if passed, will ban the traditional killing of bulls at the end of bullfights.

Ecuadorian voters will are voting on a bill that would make it illegal to kill animals for entertainment.

That might be good for the bulls, but matadors like Diego Rivas fear the ban will negatively impact their finances. Beyond that, people say killing the bull is an integral part of the tradition, and eliminating it would be a travesty to the sport.

Members of Ecuador's matador community staged a protest on Wednesday in front of the Carondelet presidential palace in Quito in all their bullfighting regalia — with one important addition: tape over their mouths to demonstrate that they are not being heard.

The President of Ecuador's Union of Bullfighters, believes eliminating the killing of bulls in bullfights would be a death blow to the 97,000 families he estimates make at least some of their income off bullfighting.

Spain's Largest Broadcaster Will No Longer Televise Bullfighting

Bull fighting ban on Spain broadcast

Hooray!

The countries national broadcasting network, RTVE, announced it will no longer broadcast bull fighting shows in order to protect young children from viewing violence.

The broadcaster believes:

"Children can view violence exerted over animals with anxiety and we must therefore avoid it by all means."

RTVE has not broadcast bullfighting in any of its programs for months, citing low audience ratings and budget problems over expensive outdoor locations shooting, but now has confirmed under a chapter called "Violence with animals" in its latest stylebook that it "will not broadcast bullfighting."

Some Spaniards revere bullfighting as an art form while OTHERS consider it a CRUEL blood sport with no place in modern society.

We're going to have to side with the latter here because the bullfighters KILL the bull at the end of the show!

Disgusting!

We don't need to watch an animal die for our entertainment.

Kudos to you RTVE!
