Patient Denied Medicaid To Treat Breast Cancer Because He's A Man!

Raymond Johnson

A North Carolina man is feeling the sexist sting of our federal government.

Raymond Johnson recently received the surprising diagnosis after going to the emergency room for throbbing chest pains — he has breast cancer.

With no insurance, he sought help from federal funds allocated to help people suffering from the disease who can't afford treatment.

Although cancer does not discriminate, Raymond found out our government does. In order to receive Medicaid funds to treat breast cancer, it turns out one must be a woman!

That's pretty silly considering breast cancer in men is not unheard of. Although 100 times less likely to occur, 2,140 men are diagnosed a year with the disease and 450 men lose their lives to it.

The state's Department of Health and Human Services has recognized the problem and has contacted the federal government for help, while Raymond is paying up to $10,000 for each chemotherapy treatment he undergoes to fight the illness.

We really hope the government is as quick as North Carolina to recognize the discrimination, but are a little worried because our bureaucratic government has never been known to be "quick".

Avril Lavigne Announces Plans For New Music

avril lavigne announces plans to release new single and album

Wow! We're surprised to hear that Avril's got plans for a new album. It's been AGES since her last one!

Here's what she had to say about the new album on her website:

"…I’m done with my 4th record!!! Well, actually I have been done for a year… and now my record company have finally decided to release it. OMG..How nice! Thanks guys."

A year? We're not sure if that's an overly positive sign for this album. Here's more from Avril:

"I know you guys have been waiting for a long time…..and so have I, but not by choice. I have been sitting with this record for a year now. It’s really special to me. I have produced a couple tracks alone for the first time, written solo, with friends, I have pushed myself and I feel proud."

Hmm…sounds like your label was not enthused with the album. Maybe they've had a chance to fix it up by now hopefully

More from Avril:

"In saying all that, this has been a really difficult record for me to create and to release. Not only is this the most meaningful and special record I have written, it is sincere, honest and close to my heart. But for the first time I experienced a bunch of bureaucratic BS. People do their best work when they are doing what they want, love and is natural for them, not when you are forcing them to be something that they are not."

From the beginning of my career my message has always been to be yourself and stand up for what you believe in. Follow your heart."

All right, well we can certainly respect what she's saying there.

Here's Avril on her first single:

"My first single off this record is called: “What The Hell”. This song is the least personal song to me off this album. It’s a fun and funny anthem. It has a broad message about personal freedom. It is the most pop track on the record."

We'll certainly be curious to hear this single. Admittedly, we're skeptical about this new album, but Avril did have a few valid things to say about it, so who knows? Maybe she'll surprise us.

What do U think about Avril's announcement? Are U interested in more music by Avril Lavigne?
