Over 70 Reportedly Dead After Egyptian Soccer Riot

Soccer riot

This is awful, people! Just awful!

Thanks to reckless soccer hooligans in Egypt last night, at least 73 people are dead (1,000 injured) after a riot broke out at a game between two rival teams.

Ahly, a powerhouse club from Cairo, was visiting the town of Port Said and suffered a rare loss and was immediately swarmed by hometown fans. The team and fans ran for cover in the locker rooms, but unfortunately the bloodshed couldn't be escaped. Ahly coach Ahmed Nagui painted a gruesome picture of the riot when he said the locker room "looks like a morgue."

Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello Calls Madison, WI "The Next Cairo"

tom-morello-calls-madison-wi-the-next-cairo.jpg

In case you haven't heard what's going on in Madison, Wisconsin, tens of thousands of protesters have been marching on the state capital, battling a state bill that would cut union employees' pensions and health care benefits.

Without getting the national coverage it deserves, protestors have turned to other outlets, including reaching out to Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello, who's been a huge supporter of union rights.

When fans took to his Facebook page, writing such things as, "Hey Tom, could you please come to Madison? As I'm sure you're aware, Scott Walker is trying essentially to de-unionize," Tom decided to headline a concert in support of the protests scheduled for Monday.

Tom said:

"I really think that the future of the rights of working people in this country is not going to be decided in the courts. It's not going to be decided in Congress or radio talk shows. The future of rights of working people in this country will be the fight on the streets of Madison, Wisconsin. Madison is the next Cairo."

Wow. Those are some powerful words. We hope that the people of Madison are victorious in their battle of keeping their rights to pensions and benefits!

Power to the people!

Kenneth Cole Twitter Dramz

kenneth-cole-uses-protests-in-cairo-to-promote-spring-collection-on-twitter.jpg

Kenneth Cole is quickly filling Robert Duffy's inappropriate shoes on Twitter.

On Thursday, the designer used the protests in Cairo to shamelessly promote his spring collection by tweeting:

"Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online at http://bit.ly/KCairo -KC"

Obviously that didn't sit well with a lot of people, so 2 hours later he was forced to do damage control:

"Re Egypt tweet: we weren't intending to make light of a serious situation. We understand the sensitivity of this historic moment -KC"

Could have fooled us!

Two Fox News Correspondents Badly Beaten In Cairo.

Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsPolitik

This is becoming frighteningly out of control.

A pair of Fox News correspondents stationed in Egypt have reportedly been so severely beaten that they had to be hospitalized.

According to an on-air statement from Fox News' John Roberts:

"Greg Palkot and Olaf Wiig, his dedicated cameraman, were above Tahrir Square yesterday. They were forced to leave their position when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, a large fire erupted. They were forced to flee. They ran out and ran right into the pro Mubarak crowd and were severely beaten and had to be taken to the hospital, spent the night in the hospital. The extent of their injuries was fairly grave, however, they have been released from the hospital."

Unbelievable, sickening, and so, so scary.

Our thoughts are with the brave men and women who are currently stuck in Cairo. May no more harm come to any of them, and may they be allowed to return to the US quickly AND safely.

Delta Air Lines Loses Woman's Kitty

Filed under: Icky Icky PooOops!Sad SadPETAPetsCat

delta airlines loses womans cat

This seems pretty inexcusable to us.

California woman Michelle Evans sent her cat Patch on a Delta Air Lines flight from Cairo, Egypt to NYC's JFK airport, but the airline claims they lost the cat.

Here's how Michelle reacted when she was informed that her cat had "broken out of" its carrier:

"I was frantic, I was hysterical, and the first thing they did was shove $200 (for Patch's ticket) in my hand. I said 'You've got to be kidding. This is the last thing I care about, the money. You lost my cat.'"

Looks like Delta security officials tried to claim that the cat got "enraged" and broke out of the carrier, but they refused to let Michelle see the carrier itself.

Since then, she's been frantically trying to find her cat by contacting animal rights organizations in Egypt and PETA, posting a $500 reward for her cat's return, and she EVEN started a "Find Patch" blog.

Here's what Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliot has said about the airline's animal transportation safety:

"…We even have zoos that entrust us with their exotics. These escapes are due to some unfortunate situations. We take our responsibility of transporting our customers' animals extremely seriously."

We hope Michelle is able to find her missing cat, but we've gotta say we're sketched out.

Sounds like something may have happened to Patch's carrier, and it sounds like Delta is trying to cover it up.

Very sad.
