UPDATE 3:53 P.M. EST: U.S. Capitol Police have reportedly lifted the lockdown order.
What truly terrifying news!
The Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. was put on lockdown Monday afternoon when a man reportedly shot a police officer at the Capitol Visitor Center complex.
One female bystander was reportedly injured. Luckily, the officer seems to have suffered only minor injuries.
The suspect has already been captured.
Staff and tourists were told to stay in their offices and lock the doors, and while authorities do not believe there to be any further threats, the complex is still on lockdown at this point in time.
The White House was also put on lockdown early Monday morning, but we're hearing that was due to a separate, non-violent incident where someone was caught sneaking onto the lawn.
We will continue to update you as this story develops…
