The Environmental Working Group has conducted a study that proves that eating less meat means creating less waste, water pollution, and greenhouse gases, which damage our environment.
Not only is 20% of edible meat tossed every day, creating way too much waste, but it's also one of the top contributors to the world's most serious environmental problems.
Here is a list of the EWG's worst protein choices for the environment:
1.) Lamb - It produced methane through digestion, creating a large carbon footprint
2.) Beef - Same as lamb, produces greenhouse gases during digestion, while also creating a huge environmental toll when cattle is shipped back and forth
3.) Cheese - Stick to a small amount, such as less than 3 servings of cheese a day
4.) Pork - Manure contributes to greenhouses gases. Processing and cooking pork is environmentally damaging
5.) Farmed Salmon - Shipping fish contributes to a high carbon footprint, as well as fish feed and electricity found on fish farms
Eating less meat or eating a vegetarian diet definitely is the best route to take if you really care about what you're putting into the environment as well as your own body.
