What a nightmare.
A Minnesota firefighter made a heartbreaking discovery on Sunday night when he was called to a car crash that claimed the life of his own son.
Randy Peterson knew that his teenage son Carter (pictured above) was out that night, but his worst fear came true when he arrived on the scene and saw the tires of the 16-year-old's Dodge Avenger.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the teen's vehicle was struck by a pickup truck whose driver ran a stop sign at an intersection on the rural highway. Carter died at the scene.
Peterson says he was "a mess" after seeing his son's car on fire, telling press:
