We can't wait for Star Trek Beyond to hit theaters next summer — but now it looks like we have even more Star Trek to look forward to!
It's been reported that the sci-fi classic is heading back to television for a straight-to-series order at CBS!
Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote 2009's Star Trek and 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness, is developing a new take on the series slated to premiere in January 2017!
The reboot will introduce new characters adventuring to never-before-seen worlds and new civilizations to explore dramatic themes that have been a staple of the series since it began in 1966!
So, it doesn't sound like this will follow the alternative universe set up in 2009's franchise revival, but an entirely new universe — though it's too early to rule out crossover completely!
After the pilot, all episodes of Star Trek will air on CBS All Access, the network's digital VOD and live streaming service!
The cross-platform streaming service is available for $5.99 a month, and contains thousands of episodes from past and present CBS shows — including all previous Star Trek series!
Will this revival series live long and prosper on the streaming service??
