Be Safe, Young Gays! Alarming New CDC Study Reveals That…

Filed under: Gay Gay GaySad Sad

new cdc study about gay students is alarming

This is exactly why causes such as the "It Gets Better" project are SO important!

According to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gay, lesbian, and bisexual students are more likely to engage in "unhealthy risk behaviors" than heterosexual students. Sad.

These behaviors include "tobacco and alcohol use, sexual risk behaviors, suicidal behaviors, and violence."

Here's what CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) director Howell Wechsler had to say about the study:

“This report should be a wake-up call for families, schools and communities that we need to do a much better job of supporting these young people. Any effort to promote adolescent health and safety must take into account the additional stressors these youth experience because of their sexual orientation, such as stigma, discrimination, and victimization. We are very concerned that these students face such dramatic disparities for so many different health risks.”

We wholeheartedly agree with all of that! Thank you for getting the word out there, Howell!

What do U think of this study? Do U agree with it?

New Study Reveals That One In Five Gay Men In The USA Is HIV Positive!!!!!

Filed under: Icky Icky PooGay Gay GaySad Sad

This is extremely alarming news.

A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that tested over 8,000 people in 21 cities, found that one in FIVE gay men in the United States has HIV, and almost half of those who carry the virus are unaware that they are infected.

According to the study, the risk is highest among young, sexually active men and minority groups because they are least likely to know their health status, while the rate has fallen for heterosexuals and intravenous drug users.

Kevin Fenton, the director of National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention says:

"This study's message is clear: HIV exacts a devastating toll on men who have sex with men in America's major cities, and yet far too many of those who are infected don't know it."

Unbelievable.

Please, guys!

This is a truly frightening statistic!

Agreed!

They were doing well with it for a while, but Hollywood has definitely gotten lazy - and that is NOT okay!

The Centers for Disease Control released a HORRIFYING report today that reveals that cigarette smoking was prevalent in nearly HALF the movies released in 2009, and 54% of those were films rated PG-13!

Granted, smoking in film has reportedly dropped by half since 2005, but we think this is STILL unacceptable! Especially in PG-13 films! That age is when you're most impressionable!

Shape up please, Hollywood! Enough is enough!
