Design Piracy Bill Gets A Thumbs Up From The Senate!

That was quick!

Faster than a pirate can produce a knockoff, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the design piracy bill on Wednesday, less than a week after it was reintroduced.

Under the re-worked Innovative Design Protection Act, "deliberate copies that are substantially identical to the protected designs" would have protection for three years, something designers have been lobbying for for some time.

Fashion Designers Rejoice! Piracy Bill Brought Back To Congress!

This is GREAT news!!!

On Monday, New York Sen. Charles Schumer, reintroduced a bill that would provide more copyright protection for designers' creations.

The Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act was originally presented to Congress last year by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, but very little progress has been made after its two biggest proponents, the American Apparel & Footwear Association and the CFDA, had to come up with a different approach.

However, now that Schumer got the ball running this week, hope has returned to the industry!
