New Details On Robin Gibb's Hospitalization

We previously mentioned that Robin Gibb from the Bee Gees was recently hospitalized.

He is back in the hospital even though he was recently dismissed.

He's been fighting what many assume is cancer, has been on chemotherapy and had a tumor removed from his colon.

Now we've found out why he's back in the hospital.

It seems the culprit was most likely a twisted intestine, the same congenital defect his twin brother died of at age 53.

He's in good care so hopefully he pulls through this.

Feel better!

Robin gibb cancer treatment continues

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb is back in the hospital to continue chemotherapy treatment for his liver cancer.

He checked into the London Clinic last Wednesday and sources say doctors have been "astounded at his response to treatment."

That's such good news! He must not be in too bad of shape because not only was he recently quoted as saying he "feels fantastic," but he performed at a benefit concert on February 13th.

Let's hope his body continues to respond favorably to the chemo so he can beat this disease!

Good luck with the rest of your treatment, Robin!

Women Can Treat Cancer During Pregnancy

Preg cancer

Here is some good news for women facing bad news. Studies are finding that pregnant women fighting cancer can undergo treatment without any harm to their unborn child.

After assessing 70 children exposed to chemotherapy in the womb, a Belgian study has found that they developed just like any other child.

It's a good thing this research was carried out too because some doctors recommend terminating the pregnancy if the mother had to undergo cancer treatment, as study author Dr. Frederic Amant explained:

"Many (doctors) aren’t keen to give chemotherapy to pregnant women and may even recommend termination. But treating a pregnant woman with cancer doesn’t have to be so different from treating a cancer patient who isn’t pregnant.”

In the case a mother-to-be is diagnosed with cancer, the study found chemotherapy is possible during the first trimester while using ultrasounds to monitor the baby's development.

The study suggests radiation therapy is best done in the first two trimesters, as the baby is small enough to be covered with a lead blanket.

"These data don’t say that chemotherapy is completely safe, but the baby is better off being in (the mother) as long as possible,” added obstetric physician Dr. Catherine Nelson-Piercy.
