Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda Gets Candid About Chester Bennington's 'Complicated' & 'Child-Like' Personality: 'He Could Be Really Hot And Cold'

no title

It's been a heavy year for Mike Shinoda.

The Linkin Park vocalist sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss his first ever solo-album Post-Traumatic, in which he details the struggles he's gone through since his bandmate Chester Bennington died by suicide last July.

Though he says the album isn't entirely entirely about Bennington, most of Shinoda's songs explore the challenges he's had in trying to understand himself without his larger-than-life friend by his side.

Describing Bennington as a "complicated" individual with a volatile but charismatic personality, Shinoda remembered:

"He was really loud, and it wasn't just volume – he had a loud personality. We would joke that he could just go about anywhere and make friends with everybody in the place. He was just a really fun-loving dude, but he was also complicated."

Shinoda added that the singer, who battled depression and other mental health issues, could be "really hot and cold on stuff," explaining:

While 2017 certainly had its expected deaths, including that of 91-year-old Hugh Hefner, we've also been faced with quite a few untimely passings.

As you may know, Lil Peep died in November of what investigators ruled as an accidental drug overdose. The rapper was 21.

But one of the most shocking deaths of the year was Chester Bennington, who allegedly hanged himself in his home — leaving behind a wife and kids — weeks after his longtime friend Chris Cornell committed suicide the same way.

So sad. For more stars we lost this year…

Is nothing sacred?

On Wednesday, TMZ published a story detailing Chester Bennington's previous suicide attempt nine months before his ultimate July 2017 death.

Shortly after the story went up, Talinda BLASTED the Los Angeles County Coroner's office for dramatizing and sensationalizing the private information, and TMZ for posting the intrusive story.

Additionally, the mother says the details were redacted for the sake of Chester's six children.

Alcohol & Ecstasy Present In Chester Bennington's Autopsy Report Released Four Months After Suicide

Chester Bennington

Chester Bennington's autopsy report has been released.

According to the document obtained by TMZ, a small amount of both alcohol and MDMA (ecstasy) were present in the Linkin Park singer's body when he committed suicide on July 20. Police also found a prescription bottle of Zolpidem (generic Ambien) on the dresser.

In the room where Chester was found, authorities found a half-empty pint of Corona and empty bottle of Stella Artois. The 41-year-old still had his boarding pass in his pocket from his flight from Phoenix to LAX the day before.

There were pieces of fingernail lingering underneath the celeb's iPhone — which his wife, Talinda, told cops was a habit of Chester's whenever he felt anxious.

The evidence also mentions there were handwritten and typed "apparent biographies" found in the nightstands, but no suicide note.

We'll keep you posted if any other news of the musician's death comes to light — but in the meantime, our hearts are with Chester's loved ones during this tragic time.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is free, confidential, and open 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255. Please don't hesitate to call.
