Jennifer Aniston Has Pet Chickens??

jennifer-aniston-has-chickens-pic.jpg

It's no secret that Jennifer Aniston is a HUGE dog lover.

But she's keeping some new pets on her new property.

Chickens!

She didn't originally go out looking to get some feathery new friends, but now she's glad she has them.

When she got her new property, she found a chicken coop there… and it was full of chickens.

We guess the original owner just left them behind?

Well instead of giving them up (or even worse: eating them!) she decided to take good care of them.

She said:

"They're very social animals, and they like it when you visit them with a cup of coffee in your hand. And according to my groundskeeper, they love pasta."

Sounds like she's enjoying having some chicken buddies to hang out with and give pasta to!

Must be hard now though with having chickens for friends… must make it difficult to enjoy Chick-fil-A.

LOLz!

Architect Student Proposes Matrix Style Set Up For Farmed Chickens

chickens-in-a-matrix.jpg

An architecture student has proposed a Matrix style set up as the most humane way to farm chickens.

It would literally be like in the Matrix where humans were unconscious (sort of) and hooked into machines and kept alive for the benefit of the machines.

This would be similar but with chickens.

The chickens would be lobotomized, so basically they'd be vegetables, and they'd be fed with and have waste removed by tubes.

The student said everything would be better if:

Whole Foods No Longer Works With Hatchery Accused Of Animal Abuse

Whole Foods has recently ended its relationship with Cal-Cruz Hatcheries, a California based chicken hatchery that is accused of abusing baby chicks.

Whole Foods claims they "had about five degrees of separation" between the hatchery and themselves.

Above, we've posted the undercover video from the hatchery, showing them tossing baby chicks around as if they were machine parts on an assembly line, instead of living, breathing creatures.

BEWARE: The video is a bit graphic, as baby chicks are tossed around, caught in machine parts and just left there and other types of abuse.

Every time we see one of these videos, we lose a little faith in humanity.

Thank goodness for every good person out there; doing rescue work, fighting for animal rights, doing their part to make this world a better place for all creatures.

Hong Kong Kills Thousands Of Chickens After Finding Bird Flu

chickens-or-whatever-doin-s.jpg

After a chicken carcass tested positive for avian flu, over 17,000 chickens at a poultry market have been killed, said the Hong Kong government.

They declared that specific poultry market an infected place.

Local farmers are going to be prevented from sending any chickens to the market for 21 days.

The government said that they're working to find the source of the H5N1 avian influenza virus but they're currently unsure if it started at a local farm or was imported.

Wherever it started, let's hope they stop it before it spreads.

No one needs another pandemic scare like pretty much every year.

Celebs Against McDonalds

zooey-deschanel-hates-mdons.jpg

Back in November, an undercover video showed extreme mistreatment of egg-laying hens at Sparboe Farms, who supplies McDonalds.

McDonalds quickly dropped the company but many celebs feel that that's not enough.

A letter was penned to Jim Skiner, the CEO of McDonalds.

Several celebs, including Ryan Gosling, Zooey Deschanel and Alicia Silverstone signed the letter which encourages McDonalds to buy from a facilities who uses 100% cage-free hens.

An excerpt from the letter reads:

"While McDonald's has already established a 100% cage-free purchasing policy in Europe, your U.S. restaurants continue to support egg factory farms that confine hens for most of their lives in cages so small they can’t even spread their wings.nearly anything that comes naturally to them. Common sense tells us that animals with legs and wings should be given the basic freedom to move.

Sadly, there is not a single federal law to protect hens from cruelty from the time they hatch to the time they are killed. While McDonald's brags about the "billions and billions served," millions of hens exploited for your restaurants are being grossly underserved. In fact, these animals are being abused in ways that would land your egg suppliers in jail, if dogs or cats were the victims."

You can check out the whole letter HERE.

Lets hope McDonalds gets the hint and switches to a completely cruelty-free supplier.

McDonald's McDumps Egg Used In Egg McMuffin Over Health Concerns

Filed under: Icky Icky PooFoodHealthFast Food

McDonald's is currently accepting applications for a new egg supplier.

An undercover video from an animal rights group has revealed that the fast food company's main supplier, Sparboe Farms, was operating with "significant" health code violations including unsanitary conditions and repeated acts of animal cruelty.

Thankfully, as a result of a news piece from ABC (above), McDonald's "will no longer accept" their eggs.

The undercover investigator from activist group Mercy for Animals told sources:
