Celebs Against McDonalds

zooey-deschanel-hates-mdons.jpg

Back in November, an undercover video showed extreme mistreatment of egg-laying hens at Sparboe Farms, who supplies McDonalds.

McDonalds quickly dropped the company but many celebs feel that that's not enough.

A letter was penned to Jim Skiner, the CEO of McDonalds.

Several celebs, including Ryan Gosling, Zooey Deschanel and Alicia Silverstone signed the letter which encourages McDonalds to buy from a facilities who uses 100% cage-free hens.

An excerpt from the letter reads:

"While McDonald's has already established a 100% cage-free purchasing policy in Europe, your U.S. restaurants continue to support egg factory farms that confine hens for most of their lives in cages so small they can’t even spread their wings.nearly anything that comes naturally to them. Common sense tells us that animals with legs and wings should be given the basic freedom to move.

Sadly, there is not a single federal law to protect hens from cruelty from the time they hatch to the time they are killed. While McDonald's brags about the "billions and billions served," millions of hens exploited for your restaurants are being grossly underserved. In fact, these animals are being abused in ways that would land your egg suppliers in jail, if dogs or cats were the victims."

You can check out the whole letter HERE.

Lets hope McDonalds gets the hint and switches to a completely cruelty-free supplier.

Ryan Gosling Stands Up For Chickens

Ryan Gosling Peta Chickens USDA

This man is a hero!

Not only did he stop a street fight earlier this month, he is also helping PETA urge the U.S. Department of Agriculture to revoke its approval of foam-based extermination.

The method kills birds in a torturous process that can take up to fifteen minutes. The stress they endure in their final minutes is like that of being buried alive.

This is unacceptable.

In a beautiful letter, Ryan Gosling wrote:

If dogs and cats were killed in this way, the person committing these acts would be charged with cruelty to animals.

He continued, asking the USDA to only approve of humane methods, including an alternative that uses carbon dioxide to painlessly render birds unconscious.

He's also written to KFC and McDonald's in the past too.

This man is amazing — on and off screen! Thanks for being such a great role model, Ryan!!

How Farm Animals Beat The Heat Wave

How Farm Animals Beat The Heat

Cows don't crank up the air conditioning, pigs can't chill out in a movie theater and chickens won't cannonball into a pool.

At farms, fairs and the racetrack, the furry and feathered rely on human caretakers to keep them comfortable.

"Having animals now, during this heat wave, is really very taxing. I don't know how the cow people do it,"

said a sheep farmer in Hazen, Pa.

Keeping animals cool will be critical for farmers and handlers in the next few days. Cows can be a tough spot because they can't pant to release heat. (Chickens can! WFT, right?)

The National Weather Service said more than 1,000 heat records have been set or tied this month nationwide.

Some farmers letting their animals play in the sprinklers and others rub their animals in vinegar - which (they say) helps.

So before you pity yourself in this heatwave, think about what it's like to stuck in a wool sweater like the poor sheep!

12 Chickens Cook In Owner's Parked Car

12 Chickens Cook In Owner's Parked Car

Is this the Coronel Sander's secret recipe?

Police in Kentucky say 12 chickens were left in a hot car while their owners went shopping at Walmart.

One of the chickens died and the others were taken to a shelter after someone reported they'd been left in the car for about 30 minutes.

Officers in Georgetown, where it happened, say the windows were left open just a crack.

The National Weather Service says the high temperature Wednesday in nearby Lexington was 94 degrees.

Police say any charges against the owners will be up to Animal Control.

JLo's Ex Says She Sacrificed Hens For Santeria

JLo's Ex Says She's Scarified Hens For Santeria

Here's the newest "revelation" from JLo's fame seeking ex!

Ojani Noa married Jennifer Lopez in February 1997, but Noa claims that J.Lo cheated on him with P. Diddy and Miami club owner Chris Paciello.

Desperate to save their marriage, he visited the LA home of a Santeria guru with Jennifer, he says.

On a recent appearance on the Spanish-language show Frank Cairo: Sin Libreto, Noa confided that:

“At the end of the ‘90s, my black magic godmother - who is now Jennifer’s spiritual leader - was protecting me, taking care of me, helping me and guiding me like a son.”

“We participated together in sacrifices of chickens and hens, and in one occasion, I was present when they were cleansing Jennifer with the blood of a hen.” The hen’s blood was poured over Jennifer until she was covered in it, Noa said. Then she was bathed in “holy water” to wash away the blood, and herbs were passed over her body. “Meanwhile, the godmother was asking the gods to cleanse Jennifer and save our marriage.”

We're still waiting for anything to back this claim, but he's only sent us his head shots.

NJ Town Limits Conjugal Visits Between Roosters & Hens

Angry rooster

This is sure to start a cook fight.

A New Jersey town has adopted an ordinance that regulates when chickens and roosters can hook up in backyard henhouses.

Roosters must show they're disease-free and they better not crow about their conquests.

Hopewell Township residents can have up to a half-dozen hens on half-acre lots. Roosters would be allowed only 10 days a year for fertilization purposes.

Mature roosters are not allowed because they're too noisy. Any roosters that crow too long can be banned from the property for two years (lol).

Mayor Jim Burd told The Times of Trenton the ordinance is a compromise between today's lifestyle and the township's agricultural history.
