Disney's Live-Action Mulan Apparently Has A White Male Lead… Get The Deets On The Racist, Sexist Script!

UPDATE 12:50 PM EST: A source close to the movie told Vulture that Disney did indeed purchase the Mulan spec script with the white male lead but has no intention of using that take, explaining:

"The spec script was a jumping-off point for a new take on the story that draws from both the literary ballad of Mulan and Disney's 1998 animated film. Mulan is and will always be the lead character in the story, and all of the primary roles, including the love interest, are Chinese."

Jurassic World writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are working the current version.

We can't wait to see how they mansplain themselves out of this one…

Disney has found huge success with live action remakes, thanks to Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book, so it's no surprise they're already doing too much with the genre.

While reboots of The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty & The Beast were more or less welcomed, the most anticipated of the bunch just found itself an unlikely controversy.

That's because it was just revealed that the first draft of Disney's live-action Mulan actually features a white male lead in place of the historically Chinese female hero!

For some reason or other, The Legend of Mulan writers Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin want their teenaged Mulan to be saved by a 30-year-old European man… and the Internet is not taking the whitewashing lightly!

Luckily, an anonymous industry insider outed the proposed plotline in a guest blog post with Angry Asian Man on Monday, saying:

A spokesman for the Chinese zoo allegedly discussed the contest, telling the media:

This is one mother of an idea!

A British teenager by the name of Beau Jessup is most likely the envy of all her friends right now.

No, she isn't gaining international attention for her Instagram or Twitter or anything like that… she's just casually making headlines for all the money she's making from a Chinese baby-naming business she started!

It definitely sounds a bit odd, but Jessup created the very successful website SpecialName.cn as a way to help parents name their newborns after being inspired by a trip she took to China.

no title

We're gonna be seasick.

Johnny Depp is currently wrapped up in the most tumultuous divorce of the year, and once again, his prominent industry peers don't seem to care very much about Amber Heard's disturbing domestic abuse claims.

Disney CEO Bob Iger became the latest Hollywood power player to speak out about the Pirates of the Caribbean actor's personal problems on Wednesday… but he seems almost too lackadaisical about the whole ordeal.

The 65-year-old businessman sat down with The Hollywood Reporter this week to discuss the grand opening of Shanghai Disneyland Park, but when the topic of Jack Sparrow's role in the Pirates ride came up, Bob didn't seem at all bothered by the drama.

In fact, while Bob doesn't necessarily think the public is going to forget about Amber's accusations anytime soon… he's not that worried about their effect on the Pirates brand:
