Cast Of Spider-Man Musical Fires Back At Critics

They certainly are committed, aren't they?

Despite injuries to four different cast members, the cast of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is standing by the musical and firing back at the show's critics.

Tony Award-winning Alice Ripley recently said that the production is "embarrassing to working actors everywhere…Does someone have to die?"

However, one of the stars of the show, Reeve Carney says that the production "appreciates everyone's concern for our safety" and adds:

"It's an athletic event so you know that there's a certain amount of risk involved. The people on are crew are amazing; they care for our safety every day … we do trust them."

Ha. That doesn't sound very convincing.

Patrick Page, another star, says though that he wishes "they could be in the building with us and see the care [director Julie Taymor] takes and the care that our producer Michael Cole takes. I think they'd feel a lot better." He also says that the Actors' Equity Association is on set "virtually all the time."

Even Christopher Tierney, the stunt man who suffered from four broken ribs and three cracked vertebrae after falling 30 feet into the pit, says that he hopes to return to the show once he recovers. "The moment I feel I am good, I am back in that show," he said. "I can't wait."

Wow. Well, obviously the cast believes in the show and their production crew and is willing to go the extra mile.

We're not sure if we'd be so brave.

injured spider man stunt man speaks up

We're so happy with all the progress he's made!

Stunt man Christopher Tierney, who was injured during a performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, is now in rehab, and has decided to speak up about his experience.

Here's what Tierney had to say about his injury to CBS 2 News anchor Dana Tyler:

"I was falling and then I saw once I hit the darkness of the stage, I had to just turn it real quick so I wasn't going to fall on my head and I crashed on my back."

And more:

"The last thing I remember was like, uh, just going, 'Oh, God."

So scary!

We've also heard that Tierney wants to return to his Spider-Man role asap, but we REALLY hope he takes plenty of time to get better before he considers returning to the show.

Get well soon, bb! Our thoughts are with U!

Actors' Equity Prez Releases Statement On Spider-Man Stunt Man Injury

actors equity prez releases spider man statement

Nick Wyman, the president of the Actors' Equity Association, has released an official statement about stunt man Christopher Tierney's injury during a performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

Here are some highlights from his statement about the incident:

"I have been very disturbed and distraught by the serious injuries sustained by our member Chris Tierney at the December 20th performance of SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK."

"That Chris is not the first actor, nor the second, but rather the fourth to be injured on SPIDERMAN is frustrating and maddening and, to some, infuriating."

"Working with OSHA, the Department of Labor and IATSE Local 1, we have insisted on further safety protocols, backups, fail-safes, redundancies over at the Foxwoods Theater."

"As passionately as those of you feel who were savaging Equity for not stopping the show or at least stopping the injuries, that's how passionately our staff feels about making sure our members are safe and supported and able to give the best of themselves onstage without fear."

We're certainly glad to hear that Actors' Equity is taking steps to improve safety on the show. Let's just hope that everything they're doing works out!

We would be really upset to hear about another injury.

Spider-Man Stunt Man Stuck In ICU For Christmas

This is terrible!

The stunt man who was injured while performing in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark will be stuck in ICU for Christmas.

Christopher Tierney is suffering from a broken elbow, broken ribs, and a cracked skull after plummeting 30 feet during a live performance earlier this week.

Tierney's dad says that he and the family are making plans to be with him at the hospital in New York during the holiday weekend where he will he stay before being moved to a rehabilitation center next week.

His dad also explains that Tierney cannot wait to get back on stage:

"[Chris] cannot wait to get back into the Spidey costume … It won't be as soon as he would like but … his spirits are high and he cannot wait to get back."

Really?! That show did some serious damage to him. We just hope that a severe accident like this won't happen again if the show continues.

Get well, honey.
