Galas aren't just for actors and musicians! They're for athletes too!!

Last night marked the 28th annual Sports Spectacular Gala held in Century City, California, and some of the BIGGEST names in sports came out to play!

The night featured a memorial for the late Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss as well as an award ceremony for athletes such as US soccer superstar Hope Solo and Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul!

But the real guest of honor was none other than Jason Collins, who earned the title of Inspirational Athlete of the year for his decision to become the first active player to come out as openly gay in a major U.S. sport!

For those of you who just can't get enough of Jason Collins, we have some GREAT news for you! There are TWO of him! Well, sort of…

Jason and his identical twin brother Jarron Collins had us seeing double when they made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the big guy's life since becoming the first openly gay player in a major U.S. men's sport!

But before the NBA center came out to the rest of the world, he says had to let his brother in on the news first. Although Jarron was a bit caught off guard at first, he says he has nothing but love for Jason:

"Oh come on, he's my twin brother. Of course I'm gonna be supportive of him all the time. That's just the way it is."

Awww! Nothing like a little brotherly love to warm our hearts!

The big news has of course had a HUGE impact on Jason's life, but it's also affected Jarron as well. Mainly because he gets confused for his brother ALL the time!

We're just guessing here, but it might have something to do with the fact that they look EXACTLY the same! LOLz!

So to help avoid any confusion down the road, Jimmy brought a little gift for Jarron to make sure people know who's who!

Whoa!!! Say WHAT?!

'N Sync's Lance Bass was a guest on yesterday's Rubin Report and the topic of discussion was Jason Collins becoming the first openly gay active athlete in a major American team sport!

It was no easy feat, but Lance thinks it could be even HARDER for a member of a boy band whose whole business strategy is built around catering to sexually interested young women buying merchandise, concert tickets, and albums!

In the web series (above) Lance argues that, statistically speaking, someone in One Direction is likely gay!!

By now, you might know that Chaz Bono lost a total of 60 pounds, which is pretty darn amazing…

And even though the 44-year-old may not talk to his mama, Cher, she still opened up about his weight loss, and even talked about his coming with Ellen Degeneres.

The legendary songstress went on the TV host's show with her mother, Georgia Holt and half-sister Georganne LaPiere, and when Ellen mentioned Chaz's drastic weight loss, the 66-year-old singer said:

"Yes, and working really hard on it, too."

Miz DeGeneres then went into asking about Bono's 'coming out,' and considering that Cher was the last to know, she was kind of taken aback — especially because her mama was the FIRST to know.

Jason Collins knew that coming out as an active gay member of the NBA would be a huge deal. We're just not so sure he was expecting a phone call from the President himself!

It's true!

Not only did Jason get a tweet from the First Lady, but he also got a phone call from President Obama! The Prez said he was 'impressed by his courage' and offered him his support in his big decision to go public! Now if only Obama would do something about the whole gay marriage thing…

Jason Collins is gay and he's out and he's comfortable in his own skin… and we couldn't be more proud of the courage he's shown!

In fact, when the NBA vet shocked the world with his historic Sports Illustrated revelation today, the vast majority of the his colleagues' reactions were kind, genuine, and accepting!

Unfortunately, it only takes one or two rotten apples to spoil the whole bunch!

First Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace tweeted ignorant comments toward Jason and now ESPN's premiere NBA analyst Chris Broussard has taken the intolerance to the next level!!
