In her upcoming book Addict Nation, author/HLN TV Host Jane Velez-Mitchell explores the notion that Americans have "cultural addictions" that spread much further than just drugs and alcohol.
Some aspects of our culture that Jane thinks we're collectively addicted to include the Internet, compulsive social networking, television, and celebrities.
Sounds like fascinating subject matter, although we couldn't POSSIBLY imagine anyone being addicted to celebrity. How much time can a person possibly devote to that? LOLz!
According to Jane, the media, government, AND private sector "are also culturally hooked on these destructive customs and therefore justify, romanticize, and promote them–in essence, becoming "pushers."
Def an inneresting take on the concept of "addiction." Guess we'll see what else Jane has to say on the subject when the book comes out next month!
