This spring and summer is all about flashing some skin, just ask Fashion Star stylist Daniel Musto.
Last time he shared with our CoCoPerez.com readers how to channel your inner Kelly Kapowski, but for those ladies who want to show a little bit more then Topanga Lawrence is who you should be looking to for inspiration!
Here's how U can get the look:
Named after Los Angeles' spookiest mountain town, Topanga Lawrence from Boy Meets World made girls jealous and boys fall to their feet. If she wasn't showing her belly in a cropped striped turtle neck, she was wearing her thick hair high on her head in a scrunchie. Although, Carrie Bradshaw brought back the scrunchie on SITC, I haven't yet accepted it back into my world. What I CAN say, is that I fully approve knotting a piece of clothing to shorten and/or tighten it. Just like DJ Tanner on Full House, Topanga would tie a knot in her tops to give her a waistline. There is an easy way that we can update this trend and use it today.
With the overwhelming revival of maxi skirts this Spring and Summer, I fully approve of knotting them to shorten or give shape. Tying a knot on the center-bottom of a floor length skirt will pick it up off the ground, while tapering it at your ankles. This gives a bohemian, structured look without spending a dime.
A lower side-knot will add a flamenco feel to your look, while giving a peak at one of your legs.
If you are looking to permanently update an old skirt, you can cut a slit from the bottom up and than continue to tie it as I instructed. This will give you the opportunity to show some more skin, and maybe even land your very own Cory Matthews.
