On Monday night, children and adults from Chunky, Mississippi were all ready to enjoy their Halloween tradition of going for a haunted hayride when tragedy struck.
The Jeep pulling the hay lined flatbed truck full of festive passengers was rear ended around 8:45 p.m. EST by a Ford F-150 on Highway 80.
Despite three helicopters and multiple ambulances arriving shortly after the accident, two people passed away at the scene and a third died while waiting for a helicopter. Several others were also taken to the hospital.
Not a lot of details have been released regarding the victims; however, Newton County Coroner Danny Shoemaker confirmed the dead included two children and one adult. To make matters worse, it's also being reported the deceased were all related.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West opened up about the tragedy, saying:
"It's a small community. This is a bad thing to happen anywhere, but when it's local, it really hits home. These are good people, and our hearts go out to them."
