processed foods

You know what's good for you? Eating things you can pronounce!

If you're diet mainly consists of packaged processed foods, then you probably aren't. Instead you're eating way more calories then you need to and are slowly, but steadily increasing your risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.

Scary, right?

Nutritionists will tell you again and again to stick to foods with five ingredients or less. Sadly, that is hard to come by in our grocery stores these days, so experts will also advise only eating food items that contain ingredients you can PRONOUNCE!

Do U know what tricalcium phosphate or thiamine mononitrate is? Neither do we, so therefore, we don't want to eat it!

Take a look at what's in 12 processed foods of America's favorite snacks that contain 25 ingredients or MORE and find out at what you're really eating … AFTER THE JUMP!

Study Links High IQ To Drug Use

Drug use high IQ

Our sixth grade D.A.R.E. teachers would not be happy to hear about this!

A new British study has found children with high IQs are more likely to use drugs as adults than people who score low on IQ tests as children.

Using data from the 1970 British Cohort Study, which has been following thousands of people over decades, researchers found men with high childhood IQs were twice as likely to use illegal drugs compared to their lower-scoring peers.

It's not just a guy thing either. In fact, the study revealed it's actually more a of a girl thing! Women with high IQs as children were up to three times more likely to use drugs as adults.

James White, a psychologist at Cardiff University in the UK and the lead author of the paper, isn't surprised by his findings, explaining:

"Previous research found for the most part people with high IQs lead a healthy life, but that they are more likely to drink to excess as adults."

He offers up the notion that those with a higher IQ are "less likely to smoke [cigarettes], more likely to be active and to have a good diet", but do not see any danger in occasional drug use since there is little data suggesting any harm, elaborating:

"With smoking, the evidence [about its dangers] is overwhelming, whereas when you look at things like cannabis use, since they are more likely to associate with people who are similar to them, they are likely to see that smoking cannabis relatively infrequently doesn't have huge impact."

Ultimately, he feels that the main propulsion for the higher IQ population to use drugs is "openness to experience" paired with "having an educated view of risk as well." In his research published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, White states:

"People with high IQs are more likely to score high on personality scales of openness to experience. They may be more willing to experiment and seek out novel experiences."

On the flip side, the psychologist notes other studies find kids with high IQs may use drugs because they are bored or to cope with being different.

We imagine there are an abundant amount of reasons kids and adults use or abuse drugs, but we don't think a single study will ever completely nail them all down.

On another note, does this study mean Charlie Sheen is a genius?

Glee's Harry Shum, Jr. Goes Shirtless

Shuman Shirtless

Damn! Television just got a little hotter this season!

Harry Shum, Jr. has been dancing his way up the Hollywood ladder for the last 8 years in movies like Step Up 2 and Step Up 3D. Thanks to Ryan Murphy, he may finally be on his way to the top!

The actor and dancer caught his big break this year when cast as a series regular for the third season of the hit comedy, Glee.

However, Shum revealed in an interview for DA Man magazine that his dancing career may have never happened if it wasn't for a high school dare. While responding to a question about why he started dancing, he shared:

"Well, I started ‘proper’ dancing when I moved to Los Angeles, taking dance classes from the pros. I guess I began ‘improper’ dancing back in high school after I was dared to audition for the school dance team. By some kind of miracle, I was selected to the team, but didn’t know why because I wasn’t very good. A joke turned into passion and now it’s a big part of my life."

This guy is proof that it's never a bad idea to try something new!

It might take you a few years and a lot of student loan deferments, but eventually it could lead to a starring role on a hit tv show.

No matter how crazy your dream, Shum recommends working toward achieving it. Although, he keeps it real and admits he once wanted to be an NFL quarterback, explaining:

"I was a bad dancer at one point and sometimes I still think I am. Keep working hard because you never know which day you might find your groove. Also it’s good to be real with yourself sometimes, because I realize that my dreams of being a pro quarterback for the NFL are pretty much gone. But you can always just dance for fun; just like being able to play football for fun."

So true! We're really starting to like this guy! His great attitude goes well with his 6-pack! Ha!

If you're like us and are looking forward to seeing more of this fella, be on the lookout for an upcoming independent film called White Frog or tune into Glee every week!
