Have you gotten bumped lately???
While in school at the University of Chicago, business students David Lieb and Jake Mintz came up with the iPhone app Bump, which has totally blown up!
For those of you out there who are virgins to the Bump, it's an app that allows iPhone and Android users to exchange contact information, photos, music, videos, and apps by "bumping" two phones together.
By now, the app created by the two former Chicago students has now been downloaded thirty million times, and it's been banked by $20 million from venture firms! Wowsa!
Here's what co-founder Jake Mintz had to say about the evolution of BUMP:
“We expected Bump to be used in formal situations, like replacing business cards, but when we looked at how people were actually using it, it was for fun, after five. It became a nights and weekends app, people using it in social situations. So once we saw that, we shifted to trying to emphasize fun over serious, like sharing music and photos.”
Given the fact that it's a free download, the next step will be for the Bump guys to figure out a way to make money off of their app. We're sure they'll figure something out.
Best of luck, guys! Keep on bumpin'!
