We've been hearing about these supposed sequels for years now, but it sounds like Roland Emmerich and co-writer Dean Devlin finally got their shiz together!
In a recent interview, Devlin spilled the news that he and Emmerich have developed an idea for the sequel which would be "a worthy path to go." He revealed that he's working with the blockbuster director again "for the first time in 11 years," as he explained:

How many times can effing aliens attack the same planet??
Director Roland Emmerich is reportedly prepping for two sequels to the 1996 box office smash Independence Day, and Will Smith is attached to return!
Writer Dean Devlin is writing the script for the sci-fi explosion-fest, and as of now the films are set to be shot back to back in 2011.
We can't imagine this is going to work - the last two movies franchises shot back to back, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Matrix, were far less well-done than the originals!
Not to mention the aliens can't possibly attack on the fourth of July every year!! What the eff are they going to be called?? Arbour Day and Cinco de Mayo??
What do U think?? Are U excited for new Independence Day movies?
