boston marathon bombing prosecutors seek death penalty Dzhokhar Tsarnaev execution

If the U.S. Department of Justice has its way, one of last year's Rolling Stone cover boys might be executed.

On Thursday Attorney General Eric Holder and federal prosecutors announced they were seeking the death penalty in the trail of alleged Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev!

He stands accused of making homemade bombs with his now deceased brother, Tamerlan, and detonating them near the finish line of last April's Boston Marathon. The explosions killed three people and injured more than 260 others.

If the terror suspect is convicted and subsequently sentenced to death, his would be the first federal execution in over a decade and the highest profile one since Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was given a lethal injection in 2001.

In an eight-page statement prosecutors said:

Maricopa County prosecutor Bill Montgomery will now be asking a new jury of her peers to dole out justice by, you know, lining the convicted murderer up in front of a firing squad.

Well, not a firing squad, per se — Arizona's only sanctioned form of capital punishment is

Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Charged! Magistrate Judge Called To Hospital! Charges Could Carry Death Penalty!

suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev is awake and answering questions via writing on boston bombings opt

A rep from the White House has just confirmed that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, will face criminal charges in federal court, rather than be designated an enemy combatant.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said in the case against Dzhokhar, this is "absolutely the right way to go and the appropriate way to go."

Citing other terrorists who have been tried and convicted in federal court, he added:

“The system has repeatedly proven that it can successfully handle the threat that we continue to face.”

Dzhokhar was reportedly arraigned in his hospital bed earlier today and while some outlets are reporting his charges are being sealed, others have reported that he has been officially charged with with one count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction in the U.S. and one count of malicious destruction of property with an explosive device. The charges could carry the death penalty.

The wheels of justice are starting to turn. Here's hoping we'll have more answers soon.
