One well known rule for women who are preggers is no alcohol allowed! Not one single drop.
New data from Denmark suggests, however, that rule of thumb may not be entirely true. Their research suggests that light to moderate drinking early in pregnancy, up to eight drinks a week, has no effect on intelligence, attention or self-control in children at age 5.
Be forewarned, though. Drinking more heavily WAS associated with measurable negative effects.
Over 1,600 Danish women and their children were researched between 1997 and 2003. The range of different women went from mothers who were nondrinkers to casual, heavy and moderate drinkers.
Children whose mothers had 1-4 or 5-8 drinks per week fared no different than children whose mothers had zero drinks per week. Children whose mothers had 9 or more drinks per week were reported to have lower attention spans.
Here's what the author said:
“Our findings show that low to moderate drinking is not associated with adverse effects on the children aged 5. However, despite these findings, additional large scale studies should be undertaken to further investigate the possible effects.”
Although this is certainly good news for women who slipped and drank once or twice during their pregnancy - we do not recommend any preggers women to start downing beers like they're back in college.
Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders are still the largest known cause of intellectual disability in children!
Even with minimal risk of doing harm to your child with one or two drinks a week - would you even want to take that chance?
The choice is yours.
Five little cuties got their first taste of the world today and they look TOO CUTEz!!!
The Arctic wolf pups have been inside their den since their May 7 birth and left their homes for the first time today.
Staffers at the Knuthenborg Safaripark expected a brood of three but they were met with two extra bundles of joy. The extra pups show that the mother of the quintet is a SUPER MOM!
Few Arctic wolves remain in the wild and there are even fewer in captivity.
These five furballs are a welcome AND important sight for sore eyes!
Denmark has just joined Iceland and Sweden as the coolest, most socially accepting countries ever because there is absolutely no distinction between gay and straight couples at the alter!
Lawmakers voted on Thursday to approve a law allowing same-sex couples to get married in church ceremonies. Ministers are not required to perform marriages for same-sex couples, but if that's the case, the local bishop is legally required to arrange a replacement for their church.
Despite one bishop's fear of "splitting the church", the country's Minister for Gender Equality believes “it's very important to give all members of the church the possibility to get married.”
So true! We wish our country could see the same light!
However, since America has this little thing called "separation of church and state", we don't necessarily want a law that requires churches to do anything they don't want to do.
We would just appreciate it if all the religious folks in this country gave the LGBT community the same respect and didn't expect laws affecting EVERYONE to be based on their own specific ideology.
For a lot of people, the pursuit of happiness means getting married to the person they love some day. Thankfully, a lot of people in this country are working toward making that happen.

This is absolutely heartbreaking!!
After a sweet, 74-year-old Danish woman passed away recently, her lesbian partner of 20 years and deceased’s daughter Kirsten Østergaard took her to be buried at the local Christian church.
Sounds normal, right??
Well the church administration was NOT having it. Mama Østergaard was flatly denied a burial because she was gay!!!
Whaaat??? E tu, Europe??
Kristen was OUTRAGED, and rightly so. She discussed their interaction with the church official:
Nothing like some tranquil tunes to cure a case of the Mondays!
As far as we know, this is not a scene from Woody Allen’s next film, LOLz!!
This well orchestrated flash mob (sorry, we couldn’t resist!!) was actually concocted and carried out by the Copenhagen Philharmonic to promote the local station Radio Klassisk.
Flash mobs may have jumped the shark awhile back but, in this instance, the soothing sound of Peer Gynt tamed our inner
We wish all commutes to work could be this lovely!!
