This is such a feel-good story!

President Barack Obama on Monday commuted the prison sentences of 46 non-violent drug offenders, immediately releasing them from prison after having punishments that were deemed too severe for the crimes they committed.

In fourteen of the cases, President Obama commuted the sentences of felons serving life; in total, the 46 free passes are the most given out by a president in 50 years!

One of those 46 was Katina Smith, the mother of Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

As we've previously reported, the NFLer's mom got locked up for a drug trafficking charge in 1999 — when he was 11 years old; she was plucked from his life after kissing him goodbye at school one day.

Thomas' maternal grandmother Minnie Pearl was also arrested with Smith, who was due to be released in 2017. Pearl — who is serving a life sentence for the same crime — is still in prison.

On Monday, President Obama spoke in a Facebook video uploaded by the White House about freeing the 46 people, discussing second chance and redemption.
