The Center for Disease Control announced Monday that the Mexican Grill's E. coli outbreak is over!
After 55 people were infected by the foodborne illness in 11 states, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service conducted investigations of the outbreak.
The chain shut down stores after the first outbreak, in which 21 of the infected customers were hospitalized.
An additional customer was hospitalized from a second smaller outbreak, which infected five people from three states. But neither outbreak had reports of death or hemolytic uremic syndrome — which can lead to kidney failure.
