We're VERY disappointed in you, American Idol!
19-year-old Ashley Kauffman says that when she attended a free taping of American Idol with 5 of her girlfriends, she was forced to sit in the back row, while her friends sat in the front row because she was “too heavy”.
Wow! Dispicable, Idol!
She says a staff member pulled her from the front row and said:
“Oh no, you're just too big, too heavy to be in front!”
Then, once in the back row, a SECOND staff member said:
“This makes sense why you're not with the skinny girls. You're in the last row.”
We get that we're in Hollywood, a town a little too obsessed with image, but c'mon, this is just sick. American Idol is about the music, not about the audience member's appearance.
She was so upset by the discrimination, she called her father in tears during the taping and now her father wants an apology! Her dad, Randy Kauffman, thinks she deserves an apology, saying:
“I would like to see American Idol give her an open apology. She wants an apology and it should be a live apology, if that’s what it takes.”
The teenager decided to take some action herself and commented on a Los Angeles news outlet's online story about Pia Toscano's elimination, writing:
"So everyone is so shocked about pia going home, as was i, but my biggest shocker with idol last night was when I wasn't allowed to sit in the front row with my friends lastnight because I'm too heavy! Yup I was told I couldn't sit with them because I am a little heavier than they are. I'm truly hurt and disappointed in idol!"
Don't underestimate the power of the comment section on a website!
Her father continued to say:
“It bothers her, but she’s a tough girl and she’ll get over it. But she was heartbroken."
Who wouldn't be?
Whatever ignorant staff members were responsible for ruining this poor girls Idol experience with this disgusting discrimination should be disciplined immediately! We sincerely hope this incident isn't representative of the entire productions attitude, but if it is, IT NEEDS TO CHANGE!
