Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network Slapped With A Sexual Discrimination Lawsuit!

url 9

Eek! It is a TOUGH week to be Oprah Winfrey, folks!

She's already been injured trying to carry a large flower arrangement sent to her by Tyler Perry, has been harassed about looking "old as hell" by random Twitter users, and now, her troubled OWN network has been slapped with a lawsuit on the grounds of sex and disability discrimination, failure to prevent discrimination, retaliation and willful failure to pay wages upon discharge or termination!

According to legal documents, filed Friday in the El Lay Superior Court, Carolyn Hommel asserts that she was originally hired as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions back in 2010, and during her time at the company, co-owned by Discovery Communications, she was considered a valuable employee and even expected to become a vice president!

All of that changed, however, when

FBI Catches Woman Trying To Extort Duggar Family!!

duggar family extortion

We can't believe someone would do this to such a wholesome family!!

Teresa Hunt has been arrested and faces federal extortion charges after being caught in an FBI sting.

Teresa wants Discovery Communications to pay her $10,000 or cancel the Duggar show. In exchange, she would NOT release "shocking" photos of Amy Duggar — a first cousin of the family.

Discovery contacted the FBI who sent an agent to act as a Discovery rep. When he phoned Teresa, she apparently said she already had offers of $3,000 for the pics. She emailed them over and demanded $10,000 to shut her up.

Well… needless to say, they got her!

Discovery Sued Over All-American Muslim Show!

discovery-sued-over-all-american-muslim

Uh-oh!

Visionaire Media, which was set up to create cross-cultural programming with shows like On the Road in America and Muslim Women, has filed a lawsuit against Discovery Communications, as they claim they stole an idea from them which ultimately became All-American Muslim, which aired on TLC!

Miles Feldman and Raines Feldman, who also name Noessa Higa as a defendant in the legal documents, which seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, as well as screen credit, as they claim that after meetings with Discovery executives Rita Mullin and Eric Powell, and agreed that they "orally represented" them "that if Discovery liked and used the American Muslim project, that it would hire and pay" Visionaire, and they would also receive credit as producer! The company apparently even began searching out potential families, conducting interviews, and preparing a budget, but when Higa announced she was leaving in April, they discovered that she was working on the project with Discovery with "the same casting, roles of cast members, locations, plot elements, major events and themes." However, the suit acknowledges that she was obligated to not disclose the project and her participation, as Discovery "intentionally took actions in an effort to induce Higa to breach her contract with Visionaire."

Shady shady shady!

Again, people! When you make agreements - GET IT IN WRITING!

What do U guys think?? Does Visionaire have a valid case against Discovery?

The Future Is Now! 3D Network To Launch On Sunday!

Filed under: TV NewsTech TalkBusiness Blitz

directv to launch 3d network

We may not have flying cars yet, but at least this is a start!

DirecTV has teamed up with Sony Corp, Discovery Communications, and IMAX to launch 3net, a network that will run 3D programming all day, every day!

3net will launch on Sunday with world premieres of 3D programs China Revealed and Forgotten Planet. They'll also air the TV premiere of Into The Deep 3D.

New programming and original 3D series will be released every night at 9 PM ET.

This is like a worst nightmare for pirates! We're guessing it's gonna be pret-ty difficult to create quality torrents of 3D programming.

Will U tune in for the premiere of 3net? Do U have the necessary equipment to do so?

Go Oprah!

oprah own network plans to make profit in 2011

As we mentioned before, Oprah's OWN network started out strong, and they're planning to stay strong!

According to Discovery Communications' CFO Brad Singer, the network should be "EBITDA positive" in 2011 "because of ad acceptance and good performance."

For those of U out there who want to impress your friends with your complicated acronym knowledge, EBITDA stands for "earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization."

Previously, Discovery wasn't expecting to earn profits until 2012 or 2013. Guess they're feeling pretty good after that strong debut.

Do U think Oprah's new network will make some serious $$$ in 2011?

Wowsa!

Discovery Communications has said that the $100 million dollar budget for Oprah's OWN cable network isn't going to be enough!

They've spent $75 million so far which has led to the assessment that it's just not gonna cut it!

Brad Singer, Discovery Communications CFO reveals:

"We're in the process of revising that contract. [The budget] likely will go up . . . the cost to launch the network, it will be higher than we had originally contemplated."

Well we're sure what The Big O wants The Big O gets!
