Maverick, a gorgeous grey, five-year-old Weimaraner was once kept in a crate where he was malnourished and chewed his tail raw in frustration.

Malachy The Pekingese Wins Best In Show At The Westminster Dog Show

Congrats to Malachy the 4-year-old Pekingese who won Best in Show at the 136th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Malachy is a veteran of the dog show circuit, having 114 wins already!

That's crazy!

The dog's handler said:

"I'm still in shock, it's such a thrill.

I'm just so proud to have a dog that's of this quality that could win a show like this, and to have the opportunity to exhibit him here – it's the thrill of a lifetime."

It really must be, not only because it's a prestigious title, it has a very long history.

The Westminster Dog Show has been going on since 1877!

It's been broadcast on TV since 1948.

Congrats again to Malachy!

When Dr. Patrick Mahaney isn't helping animals during the work day, he's enjoying spending time with them at glamourous events, like the Pre-Westminster Fashion Show at New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania.

Luckily for all of us, he brought a camera and wrote a review of the whole event.

He said:

"In prepping for the Westminster Kennel Club 136th Annual Dog Show, I attended the Pre-Westminster Fashion Show at New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania.

The night of high fashion and philanthropy benefitting animal welfare in support of Animal Care and Control of New York City. A variety of furry and less-hirsute participants attended the festivities, including CNN and Showbiz Tonight’s AJ Hammer (less-hirsute).

The “puptuals” wedding theme featured canine couples sporting four seasons inspired garb. The Natural Balance Pet Food sponsored “exhibitors runway show” showcased useful pet products, including:

PhysiPet behavior stimulation and exercise toys

Living The Good Life custom pet memorabilia

Style Hounds hand knit canine sweaters and accessories

Other notable runway walkers included Greg Kleva (Host of It’s a Dog’s Life on Sirius XM 110 Martha Stewart Radio) and Nikki Moustaki (award winning writer and founder of Pet Postcard Project).

Check back to TeddyHilton.com for further reports on Westminster 2012. Follow @PatrickMahaney, @CelebrityPetNws (no “e” in News”), and @TeddyHilton on Twitter for real time updates on #WKC (@WKCDogs)."

Over 2,000 dogs were competing for the prestigious Best in Show ribbon at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show.

Out of all the hounds, toys dogs, herding and nonsporting dogs, one of each will win best in breed but only one over all will win Best in Show.

These dogs are so cute and well trained and their owners are just as crazy for them as we are!

Check out the cute doggies strutting their stuff in the above video.

Martha Stewart's Chow Chow Wins At Dog Show

Martha Stewart's chow chow, Genghis Khan II, won a blue ribbon at the first day of the Westminster Dog Show for Best in Breed!

She wrote on twitter:

"Ghenghis khan did it! Best of Breed at Westminster!!!! Big Deal"

Stewart was at Madison Square Garden along with Genghis's handler, Jan Kolnick and his co-owner and breeder, Karen Tracy.

They must all be so proud of the cute 3-month-old pup.

Now, Genghis is getting ready to compete in another non-sporting category, trying for the title of Best in Group.

If he wins, he'll be only one step away from the prestigious title: World's Best Breed!

Wouldn't that be something??

Best of luck to you, Martha and Genghis!

The American Kennel Club Recognizes The Treeing Walker Coonhound As A Breed

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has recently welcomed the Treeing Walker Coonhound into its registry as the 174th breed.

The Treeing Walker Coonhound looks like a beagle on stilts.

Its name comes from the fact that it's a "hound," that loves to go after small prey, such as raccoons ("coon"), and then chase them up a "tree."

Will Young's new album is truly his best work to date!

A star in the U.K., he's relatively unknown in the U.S. - though we wish that were different!

Young has just released his new music video for Come On, and not only do we LOVE the song but we love the video too!

Check it out (above)!

Bittersweet melancholia!

Smart, sophisticated adult pop!
