Canadian researchers have announced that, in terms of cholesterol, it’s healthier to eat a KFC Double Down than a single egg.
It turns out that the Double down, which contains fried chicken, cheese, and bacon, only has around 150 milligrams of sodium, while an egg yolk contains about 275 milligrams of cholesterol.
Researchers say that they aren’t trying to condone eating Double Downs, but rather draw attention to the fact that people with heart problems shouldn’t be eating eggs due to the high levels of cholesterol in them.
"Dietary cholesterol, including egg yolks, is harmful to the arteries," wrote lead study author David Spence with the University of Western Ontario Robarts Research Institute. "Patients at risk of cardiovascular disease should limit their intake of cholesterol. Stopping the consumption of egg yolks after a stroke or myocardial infarction would be like quitting smoking after a diagnosis of lung cancer: a necessary action, but late."
The bottom line is this: If you are at risk for heart problems, don’t eat eggs. If you’re a human being, don’t eat the KFC Double Down!
