Little Boy Refused Communion Because He Has Down Syndrome

Little Boy Refused Communion Because He Has Down Syndrome,

The Catholic Church accepts everyone — that is, everyone that isn't disabled.

At least that's how Clare Ellarby feels! The British mom claims her 7-year-old son wasn't allowed to take his first Holy Communion because he has Down Syndrome.

The Diocese of Leeds wrote Clare a letter explaining that her son, Denum Ellarby, lacks the "concentration" to take part. The letter explained that members of the church can:

"only proceed to the sacrament of First Communion when they take part in the Church's life and understand the Church's faith".

Obvi, Clare is hurt and outraged by her church. She says:

"I feel really let down by the Catholic faith. They need to have more compassion. What they are doing is so cruel."

Since she spoke out the church has released a statement trying to turn it around on the Ellarbys. They claim they didn't reject Denum because he has Down Syndrome, they rejected him because his parents are bad Catholics. Citing that,

"Denum's family has not participated in the regular life of the Church or in the preparation preceding First Communion. We hope that this will change as Denum grows and we are working with him and his family to help him achieve this."

We sincerely hope this really is an isolated incident.

Otherwise, Glee is sure to use this as inspiration for an episode!!

Clothing Specially Designed For People With Down Syndrome

Here’s a creative idea to benefit many with this disorder, a clothing line for people with Down syndrome.

The line, Down Designs, was created by Karen Bowersox from Ohio, the grandmother of a little girl with Down syndrome. Karen decided to start the line back in 2009 when she noticed how difficult it was to find clothing that would properly fit her granddaughter.

Karen’s website states:

"At Downs Designs, we understand that finding clothes to fit a person with Down syndrome appropriately is a daunting task. That is why we have set out to create a line of clothing that is specifically tailored to fit their unique body shape.

Downs Designs is working towards creating a full line of clothing for all ages of people with Down syndrome. This is long process that takes time to develop. We've started with a pair of jeans and a simple T shirt.

Our mission is to create affordable, stylish clothing to fit the unique body shape of a person with Down syndrome.

We've started with adult size jeans. We've also completed a casual long-sleeve shirt. Our children's jeans and T-shirts should be available by the end of 2011. We will eventually grow into a full line of clothing for all ages."

So inspirational!

A Family Affair For Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx absolutely adores his sister DeOndra Jones.

He opened up about having a sister with Down Syndrome, “I don’t call it a condition. I just call it living.” He also revealed that she lives with him along with his other sister and his parents. “We’re one big happy family.”

On Saturday night DeOndra participated in a Fashion Show which would benefit the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.

Of course Jamie was there to show his support, saying, "this is just so amazing that she gets to do her thing where the spotlight is on her.”

Jamie really enjoyed the event, he said that the message of the event was to be yourself and realize that there is beauty everywhere!

This is a very sweet, we like the softer side of Jamie Foxx!

High School Football Player With Down Syndrome Scores A Huge Touchdown

This is so touching…

Ike Ditzenberger is a 17-year-old high school student with Down syndrome. He plays for his high school football team, the Panthers, and during a game against another school, the Vikings, something magical happened.

They let him score a touch down at the end of the game.

The Vikings were ahead 35-0, so they were going to win anyway, and in an act of true kindness, the Panthers quarterback gave the ball to Ike and the Vikings let up enough to let him score a touch down.

We love this kind of thing!

Nicole Scherzinger To Open A Music Camp For Kiddies With Special Needs

What an exciting and wonderful possibility!

Nicole Scherzinger has plans to open a music camp for kid's with special needs, in dedication to her aunt, who has Down syndrome!

She says:

"I grew up with my aunt, who is actually younger than me because my grandmother had her at an older age, and she has Down syndrome. She has always had a special place in my heart and is such a wonderful addition to our family, so when Todd asked me if I was passionate about any charities or causes, I immediately thought of her.

I want to bring awareness to how special people with Down syndrome are… I used to tell my girls in the Pussycat Dolls that I would have my own musical camp or school where I would teach people with special disabilities or Down syndrome."

So compassionate.

We think all kids, differently abled or not, would benefit from that kind of camp! Music brings all walks of life together!
