Sam Smith Relives The Awkward Moment When He First Met The Royal Family On The Tonight Show!

He sure does interview well!

Sam Smith may be going on a brief hiatus now that his theme song for Spectre has hit theaters, but he's still got a few more interviews to give before he can take his well-deserved break.

The 23-year-old crooner stopped by The Tonight Show on Wednesday night to promote the release of his saddest song ever, Drowning Shadows, but it was his very British story that was our favorite part of the episode.

As it turns out, Sam is a huge Downton Abbey fan. So huge, in fact, that when he met the royal family, he didn't just shake their hands and nod his head… he did a full-on formal bow!

But the best part has to be Jimmy Fallon's photographic evidence of the encounter depicting Prince William's rather confused facial expressions. LOLz!

Never change, Sam.

According to reports, Mercy Street will be set in Virginia during the Civil War and it's based on real memoirs from hospital workers from the era. It will follow the characters, Mary Phinney, played by Winstead, and Emma Green, played by first timer Hannah James, who work together at a Union Army Hospital, Mansion Hospital.

Of course these two women have very different moral viewpoints — otherwise there'd be no DRAMA, DUH — as Mary is an abolitionist and Emma is a good ol' confederate girl.
