The Obama administration is considering using seismic air gun blasts to search for oil and gas under the ocean seabed.
The problem with this is that the blasts are 100,000 times louder than a jet engine and they'd occur every 10 seconds for months!!
There's a very good chance that 138,500 whales and dolphins will be injured and maybe even killed by these blasts.
Luckily, they have Ted Danson fighting for them. He said:

A spokesperson for Shell Alaska has recently said that they are a step closer to exploratory drilling off of Alaska's northern shores.
The National Marine Fisheries Service issued the company harassment authorizations for whales and seals.
That sounds horrible just from the name alone.
The permits mean they're authorized to work near animals so long as the impact is minimal.
That of course isn't taking into account possible oil spills.
Shell wants to drill up to three exploratory wells this summer in the Chukchi Sea and an additional two wells in the Beaufort Sea using two drill ships.
The biggest environmental issue is that these oil companies haven't demonstrated that they'd be able to clean up a spill in the icy waters of the north pole.
This is not good for all the poor animals already struggling with climate change.

Lucy Lawless is channeling her Xena days!
The actress and six other environmentalists climbed on top of a 174 foot drilling tower on a drilling ship owned by Shell off the coast of New Zealand.
The protesters hung banners from the drilling derrick reading, “Stop Shell” and "#SaveTheArctic."
Lucy stated that she did the protest for her kiddies and that it was her first active protest against drilling.
She said the following about her act for Greenpeace:
I’ve got three kids. My sole biological reason for being on this planet is to ensure that they can flourish, and they can’t do that in a filthy, degraded environment. We need to stand up while we still can
Way to break the Law, Super Mom!
The ship has ceased operations but Shell is looking for a way to go around the protestors so they can drill in the Artic.
Score one for the planet!

Xena Lucy Lawless is urging people to sign a petition to fight deep sea oil drilling off the coast of New Zealand, her native land.
The petition already has 100,000 signatures. Though more could never hurt.

Bo Derek is leading the campaign against oil drilling in Yasuni National Park in Ecuador.
There are 10 billion dollars worth of oil in the rainforst.
Even though Ecuador is a developing country, and could really use the revenue, they are willing to accept less than half that amount in donations from around the world.
If they reach their 3.6 billion dollar goal, they won’t drill.
The money will go to reforestion, social development, renewable energy, and clean up.
