Sam Smith Relives The Awkward Moment When He First Met The Royal Family On The Tonight Show!

He sure does interview well!

Sam Smith may be going on a brief hiatus now that his theme song for Spectre has hit theaters, but he's still got a few more interviews to give before he can take his well-deserved break.

The 23-year-old crooner stopped by The Tonight Show on Wednesday night to promote the release of his saddest song ever, Drowning Shadows, but it was his very British story that was our favorite part of the episode.

As it turns out, Sam is a huge Downton Abbey fan. So huge, in fact, that when he met the royal family, he didn't just shake their hands and nod his head… he did a full-on formal bow!

But the best part has to be Jimmy Fallon's photographic evidence of the encounter depicting Prince William's rather confused facial expressions. LOLz!

Never change, Sam.

Ch-ch-check out Sam's adorable late night interview (above)!!!

Over the weekend, the crooner confessed he would be taking a break after the promotional period for his Spectre song, Writing's On The Wall.

But before that fateful day, the hitmaker decided he had one last trick up his sleeve… a surprise track!

While the melancholy melody has only just been released, the tune itself is actually older than the English singer's smashing success Stay With Me.

He explains it had taken a while to perfect, saying:

"Something didn't work. I thought of it recently when we were thinking about the repackage, and we went in and just did it with piano."

The songbird describes the creation as "the saddest song I've ever written and probably the least radio-friendly song I've ever written."

Take a listen (below)!
