Perez Reviews: Forever Dusty

dusty.jpg

What drives someone to spend 5 years developing a show? The answer is clearly… passion! And that passion for the subject material - both the person and the songs - is clear in Forever Dusty, a new biographical musical about the late Dusty Springfield by the very gifted Kirsten Holly Smith.

Smith not only wrote the script, but she also portrays the iconic singer in the show.

Kirsten does an expert job at acting the role and not being an impersonator. Plus, her singing is SPOT-on!

She is joined by an equally ace cast and one almost steals her spotlight, the phenomal in her multiple roles Christina Sajous.

If you like Jersey Boys, then you will love Forever Dusty! Songs you know and a life story that is told with equal parts humor and heart!

We already want to see it again!

Phil Collins Ca$hes In, Does Covers Of Motown Instead Of Original Material On New Album

Ugh. Did you get this shiteous inspired idea from Rod Stewart's foray into soul??

Those excited to hear some original material on Phil Collins' next album are going to be sorely disappointed, because the legend is only doing covers of soul songs!

Even more disappointing about his Motown tribute Going Back is that he's not even trying to make the songs fresh or reimagined!

He says:

"It shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone that I've finally made an album of my favourite Motown songs. These songs, along with a couple of Dusty Springfield tracks, a Phil Spector/Ronettes tune, and one by the Impressions, make up the tapestry, the backdrop, of my teenage years. I remember it as if it was yesterday, going to the Marquee Club in London's Soho and watching The Who, The Action, and many others, playing these songs. In turn I'd go out the next day to buy the original versions. My idea, though, was not to bring anything new to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them. There was one moment when they were tracking (Martha Reeves & The Vandellas hit) Heat Wave that I experienced a wave of happiness and wonder that this was actually happening to me."

All right, we respect that you really love the music and want to take a little trip down memory lane by honoring the greats, but enough's enough!

We want Phil Collins, not Phil Collins editions of songs that are fine just as they are!!

What do U think?? Are U excited for Phil Collins Does Motown??
