Michael Vick Signs One-Year Deal With Eagles

Michael Vick is taking things one year at a time.

The quarterback just signed a one-year contract to play for the Eagles for an estimated $20 million, which is standard for a player in his position.

Vick had a great season last year, and many expect him to continue to excel.

We just hope he stays out of trouble!

More Info On Vick Pulling Out Of Oprah's Show

Filed under: TV NewsOprah WinfreyMichael Vick

Possible Reasons For Vick Cancellation

Okay, so the big question is why did Michael Vick decide at the last minute to not go on Oprah's show, after already filming some things with her?

There is some speculation rolling in that it could have to do with the new owners of his former pets, even PETA, or both.

Richard Hunter, one of the adopters, who has his own radio show reveals:

"One of the adopters was contacted by one of Oprah's producers Tuesday night, who said there was preliminary interest in doing something with the dogs. Then, that same night, Vick's rep told Oprah's producers he was backing out [of the interview]. It would certainly be a coincidence if one didn't have something to do with the other."

And on the idea that PETA was involved:

“Oprah was our Person of the Year in 2009 for championing the causes against factory farming and fur. However, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, who met privately with Michael Vick, wrote to Oprah with a concern over her upcoming interview. We wanted to make sure that Oprah does not fall for the trick that Vick tried on PETA, saying that, to him, ‘pet’ dogs were different from the ‘avatars’ used in his fighting pit.”

Wow. It looks like both of these could be plausible, along with indications that Vick was pressured by his team!

We might never know unless Vick himself speaks up and gives us something more than "personal reasons."

What happened to those dogs was absolutely terrible, and we're disappointed that we didn't get to see Oprah work her interview magic and see if he's really reformed or not!

The Eagles May Have Pressured Vick To Cancel Appearance On Oprah

Rumors are going around that the Eagles may have played a part in Michael Vick cancelling his appearance on Oprah at the last minute.

According to reports, the Eagles “voiced objections” to Vick going on the show, and then on Wednesday Vick released a statement saying he had to cancel but that he hopes “to be able to participate in the interview in the future.”

We would not be surprised AT ALL if the Eagles didn’t want him to appear. Even though Vick’s public image is slowly improving, any slip-ups at this point could set him way back!

Bald Eagle Count Is On The Rise!

Record number of eagle sightings suggest species on the rise

Our nation's bird is on the rise!

Bird watchers atop an eastern Pennsylvania ridge, Hawk Mountain, counted 407 migrating bald eagles this fall, crushing the previous record of 245 two years ago.

Following it's removal from the United States Endangered Species List in 2007, this is just a reassurance of the species remarkable comeback in the last century.

Bald eagle population declined significantly in the last two centuries due to habitat destruction, hunting, and widespread use of a pesticide DDT.

By 1963, there were only a reported 417 breeding pairs left in the lower 48 states of our country, but have rebounded to more than 10,000 pairs, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Go birds!

Michael Vick Wants Another Dog

Michael Vick says he wants another dog

After serving 18 months in prison for hosting an underground dogfighting ring, Michael Vick says he wants another dog!

He said in a recent interview:

"I would love to get another dog in the future. I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals; I think it would be outstanding."

We appreciate Vick's remorse for his DESPICABLE actions, but it seems like maybe he just wants to get a dog so people forget about what he did.

Fortunately, it doesn't seem like he is ALLOWED to get a dog, as he continues saying:

"If I ever have the opportunity again I will never take it for granted. I miss having a dog right now. I wish I could. My daughters miss having one, and that's the hardest thing; telling them that we can't have one because of my actions."

We believe people change and learn their lessons, but we also think Vick should just focus on the birds right now.

The QB is flying high as he has lead the Eagles to a 9-4 season this year and is leading the league in pro-bowl voting.

We'd hate to see this comeback story come down with another scandal and we'd REALLY HATE to see another dog get hurt in a dogfighting ring.

What do U think? Is Michael Vick an old dog ready to learn new tricks or will he fall slip back into an old habit?

Philadelphia Eagles Going Green

Philadelphia Eagles Going Green

The Philadelphia Eagles are our new heroes in sports — they’re leading the way towards becoming green in the NFL.

The Eagles just decided to install a $30 million renewable energy system in their stadium, although this isn’t their first green venture. The team established a Go Green program in 2003 which has lead to the stadium’s distinctive wind turbines and solar installations.

For those of you skeptics out there, the green energy system they’ve set up will not only help the environment, but also save the team money. The franchise also expects to save $60 million in energy costs over the next 20 years.

There needs to be more of this in sports! Kudos to the Eagles for leading the way!
