That's really scary stuff, especially considering the tragic recent history of major earthquakes and tsunamis in that part of the world.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend just so happened to be vacationing on the nearby island of Bali when the quake struck, and Chrissy managed to live-tweet the entire thing — while naked and clutching her baby.

According to the National Weather Service, the waves pose the most danger to the coasts of Chile and Peru.

The NWS also said it was monitoring the situation to see if Hawaii and up and down the west coast of the Americas could be impacted, saying:

"A tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter. An investigation is underway to determine if there is a tsunami threat to Hawaii."

No word on the investigation yet, or how many casualties came from the earthquake or its aftershocks.

Our heart goes out to everyone affected by this natural disaster.

Whoa! It's like San Andreas but for real! And WAY scarier!

Friday morning there was an earthquake off the coast of Alaska that measured a terrifying 6.8 on the Richter scale.

The epicenter was far from any dense population — about 400 miles SW of Anchorage, and 34 miles under the surface of the ocean — and thankfully so far there have been no reports of casualties or damage. Whew!

And more good news: the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has officially stated that there is no danger of a distant tsunami, which can sometimes affect coastlines thousands of miles away with larger quakes.

Still, pretty scary!

The largest earthquake ever to hit mainland Alaska, way back in 1968, was a 6.5 magnitude.
