Natalia Vodianova Defends "Better To Be Skinny" Comment

_natalia-vodianova-defends-her-its-better-to-be-fat-than-skinny-comment-on-facebook.jpg

Supermodel Natalia Vodianova is on the defensive after the media misconstrued her "it's better to be skinny than fat" comment she made last weekend.

As most celebrities tend to do, the Russian beauty posted an explanation on Facebook and she had A LOT to say.

Natalia writes:

I guess the reaction of the press is expected to be negative when I said it's better to be skinny then to be fat at the Vogue Festival this past weekend. However on the background of arriving from China where most people leave under the poverty line and have to share food and watch how much they eat to survive and on the background of how I grew up where sometimes I had to skip meals so there would be food for my little disabled sister and that feeling of missing bread so much some days because on some days we had no money to buy any (reason I had ulcers as little girl was constant irregular eating) could give an explanation why I felt moved to give another prospective on this issue.

But wait, there's more! Read Miz Vodianova's entire post…AFTER THE JUMP!

Topshop Pulls Images Of Size Zero Model

UK fast fashion chain Topshop yanked images of size zero model Codie Young from their website after anti-eating disorder groups cried foul.

Following the removal the company's head of publicity, Andrew Leahy, issued a statement to explain the image:

"Topshop is confident that Codie is a healthy young woman and we do not feel it necessary to remove her from our imagery based on your feature. However we do recognize regretfully that the angle this image has been shot at may accentuate Codie's proportions making her head look bigger and neck longer in proportion to her body. […] The clothes she is wearing are a sample size 10 so in some instances they may look a little looser than normal. Topshop is proud of its heritage of celebrating individual-looking girls who offer an alternative more unusual beauty, however we take your comments very seriously."

The 18 year old model also posted a statement on her blog, writing:

"I am very happy with my body and how I look because its apart of who I am! Throughout my entire childhood I was called anorexic and people would ask if I was bulimic. And it was really hard sometimes for me to deal with as I have always been this way.

You know what some people are just naturally skinny and even if I tried to put on weight it wouldn't matter, because it doesn't matter what I eat, I dont put it on.

And finally yes okay I maybe an American size 0-2 and a UK size 8 so what. There are overweight/obese people who are a size 34 or 18 but know one says anything to them because you don't want to affend them! Just because someone eats a lot doesn't make them healthy. Just like not eating anything doesnt make you healthy."

Codie should talk to Tom Ford. They seem to share the same ideologies.

That's One Scary Looking Barbie!

Most of us already know if Barbie’s measurements were converted to the size of a human she’d be 6 feet tall with a bust size of 39 inches, an 18 inch waist and 33 inch hips.

A bit odd looking to say the least.

And one Hamilton University student is using these numbers to make a point.

Galia Slayen, who has battled her own eating disorder in the past, has created a life-sized version of the Barbie doll.

And while she makes it a point to not entirely blame the doll for a lot of the body image issues women have, she does add that it contributes a bit.

Check out her interview with The TODAY Show above to learn more about Galia’s efforts to raise awareness about eating disorders and body image issues.

Alexa Chung Squashes Eating Disorder Rumors

elle-uk-november-2010-alexa-chung.jpg

British TV personality Alexa Chung wants to let everyone know she doesn't have an eating disorder.

Elle UK's November cover girl told the mag:

"I cannot express how frustrating it is to not be believed when you say, 'I don’t have an eating disorder'. I am naturally very thin. I get even thinner when I’m stressed. And you cannot imagine how stressed I was last year. Anyone could see that I wasn’t doing great and I wasn’t coping. It angers me because I don’t want to be a pin-up for young girls just for being thin. I don’t want to be admired for being thin as opposed to being dressed well, and I don’t want the two to get confused."

And there you have it.

Hopefully this will put an end to all those pesky rumors and people will start focusing on how fab she always looks.
