Merritt Wever Gives Us A Red Carpet Quickie At The Emmy Awards

Filed under: Fashion SmashionEmmysRed CarpetEdie Falco

Emmy Awards 2013: Merritt Wever walks the red carpet.

If you've never heard of Merritt Wever, you probably do now!

She was the actress who won the first award at the Emmy Awards tonight, winning Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Nurse Jackie.

And, when we were waiting to hear her give a lovely speech thanking her parents, the crew and, we assume, Edie Falco, she instead got on stage, murmured one word, then dashed off stage!

Shortest speech in Emmy history??

That's too bad because she did look lovely in her high-waisted satin black and white gown, deep red lipstick, drop earrings, and a shoulder-length wavy bob.

Here's hoping we hear more insightful Merritt Wever speeches in the future!

Neil Patrick Harris Explains The Controversial New Way Cory Monteith & Other Fallen Stars Will Be Honored At This Year's Emmy Awards Memoriam

neil patrick harris cory monteith

There's been some controversy over this, so allow us to clear the air…

With the passing of such well-known TV personalities as Cory Monteith and James Gandolfini, this year's Emmy Awards are trying something a little different.

In addition to the classic In Memoriam segment, the show will also be host to a special honor for a few stars. Host Neil Patrick Harris says:

"We've come up with this idea – five different people that we chose sort of from different areas of television are being spoken about by people who were important to them, not in a pitying way, but I think in a respectful, classy way that will make you remember their life in a positive, forward-momentum kind of style."

Cory and James will be remembered by their costars, along with three other TV legends- All In The Family's Jean Stapleton, Mork & Mindy star Jonathan Winters, and Family Ties producer Gary David Goldberg.

But the new special honors have sparked some controversy. Not everyone is happy with the choice of stars being honored. Jack Klugman's son Adam says:

Edie Falco And Jane Lynch Will Remember James Gandolfini And Cory Monteith At The Emmys

inmemoriam

It has been an unusually sad year considering all the great men and women in the industry that we've lost.

We already reported on how Cory Monteith would receive a special tribute in the In Memoriam section of this year's Emmys, but now that we've heard that Jane Lynch will be offering her words of remembrance, we know it's going to an especially emotional night.

Likewise, who better to send off the late, great James Gandolfini on Sunday night than his onscreen wife and co-star from The Sopranos, Edie Falco?

Also honored on this weekend's telecast will be All in the Family's Jean Stapleton, Family Ties' producer Gary David Goldberg, and Mork and Mindy's Jonathan Winters.

Sunday is just going to be just too much to handle. We miss all of these fine people so, so much.

We still can't believe the great James Gandolfini is gone!

Mourners arrived in New York City on Thursday morning for the actor's funeral. Sopranos creator David Chase will be one of four people memorializing Gandolfini.

Also in attendance are former co-stars Steve Buscemi, Edie Falco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Aida Turturro, who played Tony Soprano's sister on the series.

Former TV talk show host Dick Cavett along with Alec Baldwin and his pregnant wife, Hilaria Thomas, were escorted through a side entrance at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine.

Around 1,500 seats have been set up inside the enormous Upper West Side cathedral. The funeral will be open to the public once invited guests have all arrived.
