Perez Reviews: Elf

We were expecting a BIG Christmas show when we went to Elf on Broadway. And we got that and much much more!

Under the expert direction of Casey Nicholaw, who also did Book Of Mormon, Elf featured huge sets and lots of spectacle - from ice skating on stage to snowing in the theater!

A stellar cast brings the beloved film to life on stage, but the two standouts were Leslie Kritzer as Jovie, the female love interest, and she brings the house down in Act II with her powerhouse vocals in her showstopping number, and also - kinda stealing the show - Mitchell Sink, the little boy with big voice who plays Elf's little brother.

BUT….

What we loved the most about Elf was the music! Perhaps because we read that the same team did The Wedding Singer on Broadway, we had really low expectations. But Elf featured some top-notch song! Truly memorable! A+!

Elf is a family show that appeals to all ages and will give you lots of bang for your buck! It's everything we love about big Broadway shows! It's a must-see!

First Image Of Evangeline Lilly As The Hobbit Trilogy's Fiercest Female Elf!

Orlando Bloom stole almost every action sequence in The Lord of the Rings as the badass elf Legolas Greenleaf, but he may have some competition in The Hobbit from Evangeline Lilly.

The Lost star is playing a “true Sylvan Elf” named Tauriel. She's not from any of J.R.R. Tolkien's source material, but in Peter Jackson, we trust, and her character sounds pretty cool.

Lilly described the newest addition to the Hobbit universe by saying:

Zooey Deschanel Singing Christmas Carols! Watch She & Him On Ellen!

Oooh Zooey Deschanel!

Ever since we heard her sing in Elf, we never wanted her to stop!

Luckily, she never did. She and Matt Ward have been She & Him since 2006.

They're an indie band, but they're fabulous!

Watch them perform a Christmas classic on Ellen!

Press play and be merry!

MORE Amazing Cast Additions To The Hobbit!

david-tennant-and-christopher-lee-in-talks-to-join-the-cast-of-the-hobbit

Wow! We guess it was worth waiting through the production delays!

David Tennant, who is the former Doctor on the UK series Doctor Who, has reportedly joined the cast of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit as Sindarin Elf King Thranduil!

Inneresting! Especially because that character in the series is the father of Legolas, which MAY explain why our beloved Orly is making a return appearance in the prequel!

Meanwhile, we've gotten word that Sir Christopher Lee, who portrayed the evil wizard Saruman in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, is in talks to reprise his role for the new film, as well, so long as he is in good enough health to travel!

Honestly, we don't think we could be anymore excited for this movie!

If all the pieces fall into place, this could not only match the level of awesomeness put into precedence with the original trilogy - but dare we say SURPASS it!

Thoughts??

New Details On American Psycho: The Musical

american psycho musical on its way

Back in February, we learned that a Broadway musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel American Psycho was in the works, with music and lyrics by Spring Awakening's Duncan Sheik, and a script by Big Love's Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Now that progress is underway on the musical, Sheik and Aguirre-Sacasa have decided to let the world in on new details about the project.

Here's Duncan Sheik on American Psycho's music:

"Think about Malcolm McDowell singing songs during A Clockwork Orange. He sang Singing in the Rain."

And here's Sheik on the play's target audience:

"Obviously, it's not for the people who want to see Elf."

LOLs. Here's what playwright Aguirre-Sacasa had to say about the project:

"There are murders, and they are on stage in full view of the audience. An ax and a chef's knife will be used. I think there's going to be a lot of blood."

And for those of you Ellis fans out there who loved the book, here are some scenes from the novel that the playwright hopes to include:

- Bateman lures business associate Paul Owen back to his Manhattan apartment. Bateman puts on a raincoat so his designer suit doesn't get bloody and hacks up Owen with an ax.

- He bumps into "Tom Cruise" in the elevator of the Upper West Side building where they both live. Bateman refers to Cruise's film Cocktail as Bartender. Cruise corrects him and points out that his nose is bleeding.

- Bateman and his yuppie friends compare business cards at a swanky Upper East Side restaurant. Noting his peers' classier cards, Bateman becomes so jealous he finds it hard to breathe.

We're liking what we're hearing, but we'd STILL like to see Jared Leto come back and sing while his character from the film version gets axed to death!

Are U excited for American Psycho: The Musical?

wicked-makes-broadway-histo.jpg

This was a HUGE week for Broadway!

Thanksgiving brought tourists to NYC and sales on the Great White Way went through the roof.

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark brought in $200,605 for its first preview performance on Sunday, but Wicked was the clear winner for the weekend. The show earned $2,150,665 this week, making it the top single-week total in Broadway history.

And every show in the top 10 pulled in over a million dollars! The Lion King ($1,870,565) broke a house record and Elf ($1,406,283) jumped up 63% from last week.

Not far behind was The Addams Family ($1,299,371), Promises, Promises ($1,077,802), Mary Poppins ($1,206,630), The Phantom of the Opera ($1,024,656) and The Merchant of Venice ($1,160,360).

Impressive. Did U go to NYC for Thankgiving?!
