Watch Out, Google! Apple Securing Deal For Streaming Music With Record Labels!

apple-securing-deal-for-streaming-music-with-record-labels

We assumed it would only be a matter of time before they jumped on this bandwagon!

A source close to Apple has revealed that the company is close to securing deals with all four major recording companies about a new music service that will reportedly allow users to stream music stored on computers to portable devices, to avoid one having to use up storage space and connect devices to transfer songs!

According to the insider, the deal - with Universal, Sony, EMI Group, and Warner Brothers - will allow for 'downloading, mobile use and streaming,' and will officially be announced at the Apple annual developers' conference on June 6th!

Uh-oh! We wonder what this will mean for the Google and Amazon cloud music plans!

Either way, it sounds like all three projects will ultimately help get us get our music faster AND easier, so we're pretty psyched!

What do U think?? Are U looking forward to more stream-based tunez??

The Chipmunks Want EMI To Pay What They Owe!

bagdasarian-productions-sues-emi-over-alvin-and-the-chipmunks-royalties

We didn't realize that those effing chipmunks were so lawsuit-happy!

Bagdasarian Productions, which owns the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, is reportedly pressing charges against EMI for allegedly failing to pay royalties on a 24-song boxed set of the cartoon critters' music!

According to legal documents filed by Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., his company demands damages for both breach of contract and copyright infringement. According to the terms of his license, EMI was required to pay about 9 cents per musical composition reproduced or distributed whether or not sold, or $1.75 per minute of playing time for each musical composition.

EMI has failed to do so, which means that each of the 24 songs is subject to collective statutory damages of potentially $3.6 million!

HOLY SHIZ!

They little outfits and squeaky voices are cute, but hell - they'll take you for all you've got!

Better settle this one fast, guys! We would not want to mess around with them!

Thoughts??

Macca Screws EMI!

Instead of EMI Group, Paul McCartney has struck a deal with independent record label Concord Music Group to release his back catalog as a solo artist and with the band Wings.

He used to be contracted to release post-Beatles material with EMI, but they broke it off in 2008 and now he's dealing with Concord. He says:

"Since the release of Memory Almost Full in 2007 I've had a good working relationship with Concord and enjoyed our mutual love of music."

EMI still has dibs on releasing The Beatles' albums, so they shouldn't feel too bad!

EMI For Sale!

This is HUGE!

Due to financial difficulties, the EMI record label may be sold to Warner Music Group within the year.

"I would auction off the music publishing business and dump the recorded music business to Warner," said analyst Michael Nathanson when asked about possible scenarios for the company.

According to another analyst at Standard & Poor's Equity Research, Tuba Amobi, a deal is a possibility because the parent company of EMI, Terra Firma, is "much more dire straights" than it has been in the past.

We had no idea it was this bad!
