NFL's Donté Stallworth Takes A Stand Against Homophobia!!

It's been a great couple of days for the LGBT community in sports. First, we hear that the NHL has joined an anti-homophobia movement — which makes it the first major league to ever do so!

Now, we're hearing the badass NFL wide receiver Donté Stallworth is taking a stand against homophobia too!! He joined Athlete Ally, a group dedicated to fighting homophobia in sports.

He's always been for gay rights, but it took a near-death experience (hot air balloon crash, not joking!) for him to want to go out of his way to support and make a change for the LGBT community! Here's what he said:

NFL's Kerry Rhodes Wants Everyone Everywhere To Know For A Fact He's NOT GAY!

Speculation or not, going out and essentially shouting that you're not gay just comes off as you viewing being gay as a totally negative thing! It's not offensive to be mistaken for a gay man at all! If you need to clear it up, do it modestly! Plus you totes were carrying around a dude while shirtless on your vacay… LOLz!

Judge Declares NYC Taxis MUST Be Equipped To Help Handicapped

Taxi ruling

Such wonderful news! It's just a shame it took this long.

A judge declared on Friday that New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission could not issue permits for taxicabs unless they're accessible to people using wheelchairs, writing:

"Meaningful access for the disabled to public transportation services is not a utopian goal or political promise, it is a basic civil right."

The ruling is the result of a lawsuit against the taxi commission for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act since less than 2% of cabs are wheelchair accessible.

Disability Rights Advocates, a non-profit, called this "the best Christmas gift our clients could ask for" and we couldn't agree more!

EQUALITY FOR ALL!

David Tyree Comes OUT…

Against gay marriage!

Did you think we were going to say something else? Ha!

Seriously though, this is HUGELY disappointing, especially in light of all the athletes and professional sports teams showing HUGE support for marriage equality.

Former New York Giants wide-receiver David Tyree has recently shown his support for anti-equality organization National Organization for Marriage in an interview (above) by expressing his opinion that gay marriage will lead to anarchy, saying:

"If they pass this gay-marriage bill…this will be the beginning of our country sliding toward, it’s a strong word but, anarchy. … A marriage is honorable in the sight of God between a man and a woman meant so that you can continue to procreate…."

Anarchy? Hmm…not so sure about that one, but every one has a right to express their opinion, no matter how misinformed it is.

Just how misinformed is his statement? Well, we're pretty sure Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont aren't going up in flames as a result of this "anarchy" that has allowed same-sex marriage.

Also, he states that "marriage is the only relationship that actually mirrors a relationship with God." We're guessing he doesn't know that Catholic priests are not allowed to get married and they seem to have a pretty good relationship with the big guy.

Throughout the interview, the football player continues to ramble on using religion as the basis for his reasoning that gay marriage should not be legal, which is probably the worst argument anyone make against gay marriage or any kind of public policy for that matter.

We certainly respect any person's religious belief and respect one of the core principles our country was founded on that allows us to worship freely. However, we CAN NOT respect religious belief as any kind of basis for legislation in this great nation, especially when that legislation takes away the FREEDOMS of others!

This man, like many others, needs to wake up and realize that not everyone has dedicated their lives to God like he has and his argument lacks all kinds of logic.

Check out the interview above to hear what the man has to say, but consider this: If we start using religion to decide the rights of others, we will be taking a giant leap BACKWARDS because we will be no better than the country we FLED from centuries ago because of religious persecution!

Chicago Cubs Making 'It Gets Better' PSA

The Cubs it gets better

It is getting better!

We loved the San Francisco Giants "It Gets Better" PSA and we are happy to hear the Chicago Cubs will be the next major league team to produce a similar video.

The teams owner, Laura Ricketts, said in a statement:

"The Cubs applaud the Giants for their stand against anti-LGBT bullying. Bullying of anyone for any reason is unacceptable. We are proud to join the Giants in taking a stand against bullying and encourage other professional sports organizations to do the same."

The baseball club is no stranger to the LGBT community either and has actually been supporting it for years.

In 2001, the Cubs hosted the first Out At The Ballgame event, now called Out At Wrigley, which draws thousands and has also donated plenty of money to charity organizations benefiting the LGBT community. The team even has a float in the city's annual Pride Parade!

We'd like to thank the Cubs for their continued support of equality and can't wait to see the team join the "It Gets Better" campaign.

Johnny Weir NOT HAPPY 2012 Olympic Chief Of Mission Is Anti-Gay

Filed under: Gay Gay GayJohnny WeirOlympics

Johnny Weir speaks out against Olympic Chief in Mission

Former Olympic gold medalist Peter Vidmar, who also happened to support Proposition 8 and wishes to deny same-sex couples the right to marry, has been selected as chief of mission for the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

While we're sure there are plenty of people who are bothered by someone who represses equality representing the U.S. in the Olympics, openly gay figure skating champion Johnny Weir is speaking out.

He recently told newspapers:

"It's wrong. I certainly wouldn't want to be represented by someone who is anti gay marriage. It isn't just about marriage, it is being allowed equal rights as Americans. The fact this man who is very publicly against something that may be represented on the American team is disgraceful."

Well said, Johnny!

Vidmar is so publicly against gay marriage that he donated $2,000 in support of Proposition 8 which ended the right to marry for gay and lesbian couples in California.

Members of the United States Olympic Committee said they were unaware of his involvement in Proposition 8, however, the news hasn't changed their decision.

Vidmar says that despite his beliefs, influenced by his Mormon religion, he respects "the rights of everyone to have the relationships they want to have."

If he TRULY respected the rights of people, we don't think he would donate several thousand bucks to prevent those people from attaining the rights EVERYBODY deserves.
