Kelly Clarkson has a history with the music of the late Etta James.
She performed the singer's famous song At Last during her original American Idol audition, which eventually catapulted her into the star she is today.
This weekend, Kelly honored Etta by performing I'd Rather Go Blind at Radio City Music Hall this weekend. She told the crowd:
"This isn’t At Last because everyone really covers that and so I wanted to do my favorite, actually. My favorite song is I'd Rather Go Blind. So, this is for Etta!"
Watch Kelly belt it out above. Say what you will about Kelly, but the girl's still got amazing pipes.

A legend has been lost. So sad.
At the age of 73, Etta James died last night at a hospital in Riverside, California. Her longtime friend and manager Lupe De Leon confirmed the news moments ago, revealing that Etta's soulful and iconic voice is no longer with us.
Etta was suffering from chronic leukemia, dementia and hepatitis C for quite some time, but it was complications from leukemia that ultimately led to her demise.
The music world is mourning a significant loss today. There will never be another like her. Our deepest condolences to her friends, family and fans for her passing.

It's true, Etta James is doing better, but things still aren't looking so great for the singer that brought us At Last.
She's been taken off her respirator and is breathing on her own again, which is fabulous. She's conscious and was even able to watch the New Year's ball drop with her sons in the hospital.
One of her sons said:
"She's all right. My brother and I would like to see her stay in the hospital a little longer until she gets more stable. Our main concern is for her to be taken care of right."
The troubling thing is that she's still battling the final stages of leukemia and has pretty severe dementia as well. At 73, she has had one of the fullest lives we can think of, and one of the most iconic songs in history.
We're pulling for her, still, and wish her and her sons all the best.
