Little Piglet Survives NY Flood

Piglet

With all the flooding on the East Coast, many animals have been affected.

One little piglet, Jane, survived a recent flood in Upstate New York.

A woman who lives near the flooded area, found the pig struggling up the bank of a fast-flowing, flooded creek in her backyard.

She took the pig into her home and wrapped her in warm blankets and, being a wildlife rehabber, massaged the little piglet until she warmed up.

She said:

“Several years ago, we rescued another lost piglet and took him to Farm Sanctuary. This little one displayed so much will to live; we knew she deserved to go to a place where she could be free from fear and harm.”

So they took her to recover at Farm Sanctuary’s New York shelter, where she will be an ambassador to bring awareness to farm animals who are affected during natural disasters.

The director of farm sanctuary said:

“When natural disasters strike, farm animals are generally the largest population of victims, but because they are viewed as production units by the food industry, instead of as intelligent and emotional individuals, their suffering is typically ignored.”

So always make sure to remember the farm animals! Especially the tiny piglet who fought through the floods just to stay alive.

Ellen Is Spokesperson For Adopt-A-Turkey Project!

ellen degeneres spokesperson for adopt a turkey

We all know that Ellen DeGeneres is a devoted vegan, so she is lending her support to a cause close to her heart. The talk show host will serve as the 2010 spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey Project, which educates the public and offers a compassionate alternative for Thanksgiving.

Ellen said:

“Save a life this Thanksgiving, and join me in starting a new tradition by adopting a turkey instead of eating one through Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey Project."

According to Farm Sanctuary, between 250 to 300 million turkeys are raised for slaughter every year and 46 million alone for Thanksgiving. Not to mention, turkeys are excluded from the Humane Slaughter Act, which means their deaths are far from humane.

So sad.
