We made the trek from Jaipur to Agra on Day 10 of our simply sensational stay in India.

And, on our way we stopped by the lovely and very historic Fatehpur Sikri, the red sandstone ghost town that served as Akbar Mughal's capital between 1571 and 1585.

Legend has it that Akbar, frustrated because he had no male heir, made a pilgrimage to Sikro to consult the saint Shaikh Salim Chisti. The saint foretold of the birth of three sons, and when this came to pass Akbar was so impressed that be built a city at Sikri.

Fourteen years later, it was abandoned, possibly due to difficulties with the water system.

Fatehpur Sikri is a beautiful example of Islamic architecture melded with Hindu and Jain decorative arts.

Upon our arrival in Agra, we checked into our hotel, which has a bomb ass view of the Taj Mahal!

We are going to visit and explore the Taj tomorrow, and we can't wait!!!
